Facilities

EARLY YEARS
The foundation of each child’s learning and development begins in the Early Years where they learn through creative play, exploration and discovery, alongside adult led sessions. The outstanding professional teachers develop positive relationships with the children, create stimulating learning environments and plan exciting learning opportunities, to ensure every child feels safe, happy, confident and ready to learn. They value each year of a child’s life for what it is; precious and irreplaceable. At Stroud, the youngest children begin their school life in the purpose-built Elizabeth Sanger-Davies Centre, designed with the needs of the child at its heart. The centre has four classrooms that all lead out to a large canopied outdoor classroom. There is a dedicated Early Years library and shared space where specialist lessons, such as music, are taught. Beyond the outdoor classroom is the Early Years garden, where the children can ride bikes, bake in our mud kitchen, construct and explore nature.

KEY STAGE 1
Key Stage 1, which includes Year 1 and Year 2, is housed in a purpose built, modern, light and spacious building with two classes per year group. Opened in 2018, the building has retractable walls between teaching rooms, which enable collaborative interaction between classes and interactive spaces in lesson time. They have a dedicated Key Stage 1 library and computer suite, and each classroom has access to outdoor learning spaces with resources that challenge, stimulate, and develop children’s academic and creative thinking alongside physical skills. Outside there is a secure wraparound area, with canopies covering areas, ensuring access outside is available in all weathers, together with a separate playground with climbing frames.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Middle School years at Stroud are an incredibly exciting time, packed with opportunities. The aim is to prepare our children for their next steps, equipping them with a broad range of skills and the self-confidence to take on new challenges, learn from mistakes and understand and celebrate who they are.In Middle School, they foster and develop a love of learning. Mistake making is an important part of this and children are given opportunities to contemplate and grapple through a dynamic and challenging curriculum. We provide experiences that cultivate curious learners who are excited by the opportunities Stroud has to offer. The nurturing environment of Middle School not only ensures children flourish academically but also supports the children’s emotional development; helping them to become more disposed to being reflective and resilient with the ability to recover from setbacks.

SENIOR SCHOOL
The Senior School is where the challenge of a varied and inspiring curriculum guides the learners to become more independent and prepares them for their next steps in education. They passionately believe in the importance of a broad range of subjects, taught by talented and enthusiastic teachers. Senior School is where the children’s joy of learning and pride in their many achievements really comes to the fore, as they support, encourage, and thoroughly prepare them for the rigour of senior school entrance exams, including the own selective senior school King Edward VI.

Features

Things to note

SEND
Stroud has a dedicated full time SEND (Special Educational Needs/Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) team where we work with children full time. At Stroud, we recognise that all children have different strengths, weaknesses, talents and skills. Helping each and every one of our pupils ‘find their thing’ is a big part of what they do at Stroud, regardless of academic ability.Even though they are gently selective and are unable to support pupils with a high level of need, they do still have a dedicated learning support team. They work in all areas of the school and support teachers in providing the best possible learning outcomes for all. They are immensely proud of the progress the pupils make, and none more so than those who experience additional challenges.

SPORT
As an inclusive school, they aim to provide all children with the opportunity to participate at the appropriate level in both inter and intra-school sport. Enjoyment at all levels is central to our ethos, and they are extremely proud of the pathways provided for the children to access sport at Stroud.  The departmental aim is to enhance the pupils’ exposure to a range of sports and develop a lifelong love of sport. We offer a range of performance pathways where children can learn, develop and thrive. We foster a ‘One Team, Forever Undaunted’ mind-set in all environments.

OUTDOOR LEARNING
Pupils at Stroud are no strangers to learning outside their classrooms and we proudly embrace our wild side at Stroud. The Outdoor Ranger, Mr Silas Caie, focusses on unlocking the potential of the school’s extensive natural areas whilst developing the provision of learning outside the classroom across all year groups. From Forest School in the own natural woodlands, to Beach School down on the coast and bush craft adventure camps, there is a progressive and holistic outdoor curriculum to complement the academic curriculum and help children flourish in all that they do.
