The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School

Kingsland Close, Northampton NN2 7QA, United Kingdom
3-11 Years

Description

The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School is a State Primary school for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed). The school aims to provide the children with experiences which will open their eyes to the world around them. Sometimes the children’s opportunities are narrowed by lack of available resources within the community and the curriculum aims to address this. Learning opportunities have been designed to enable links to be made with the wider context of the world such as forest schools, sports events, leading chaplaincy and participating in key events beyond the school.

Facilities

  • Curriculum: The curriculum of The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School is closely tied to our school mission statement, ‘Following Jesus, the Good Shepherd, in all we say and do.’ The Gospel Values that Jesus taught us underpin the curriculum. Through the Gospel Values we have created an environment where children can learn to live these in all aspects of their life. In the attitude towards behaviour and in the learning. The curriculum is delivered through a variety of teaching and learning styles to ensure that the learning experience is motivating, challenging and promotes curiosity.  In this way each child has the experience of working independently and co-operatively in a variety of situations and is given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
  • Early Years: Thet work hard to provide a stimulating environment that provides exciting opportunities, promotes challenge, exploration, adventure and a real love of learning. It is the intent that all children develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally in an environment which values every child equally. They aim for the children to be confident and independent, to believe in themselves and interact positively with others. They understand that play is an integral part of learning and this is at the heart of the early years’ curriculum.

Features

Things to note

  • Relationships and Sex Education (RSE): Catholic Schools, like all other schools in England, are required to produce a written policy following the guidance issued by the Department of Education (DfE) on Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). Catholic schools are required to deliver RSE in accordance with the teaching of the Church.  This approach is compatible with the guidance issued by the DfE. RSE is part of the mission of Catholic schools to educate the whole person.   It should be carried out as part of the holistic education which seeks to form as well as inform young people in preparation for adult life.
  • Educational Visits: The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School follows the OLICAT Trust School Trips Policy (attached below) for all Educational visits. The school has a trained Educational Visits Co-ordinator who oversees all educational off-site visits. All visits are risk-assessed to ensure safety of all children and adults.
  • Additional Needs and SEND: At The Good Shepherd Catholic Primary School they are committed to providing a fully accessible environment and curriculum which values and includes all children and enables them to achieve their very best regardless of their educational, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. They aim to remove all barriers to ensure that every child can enjoy and fully participate in all aspects of school life and benefit from the full breadth and richness of the opportunities we provide.  They are further committed to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion within the school.
