The Minster School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 3 to 13 (Gender - 3 to 13 )
Situated in the attractive market town of Southwell, Nottinghamshire, the Minster School is a comprehensive school of 1600 students with a catchment including local villages alongside the town of Southwell itself. As a Church of England Academy, a number of students actively engaged in their faith are awarded places alongside the majority who live within catchment and for whom this is their local comprehensive. The school is strongly founded on Christian principles and fully inclusive of all, whether of strong individual faith or none. The Minster School has a current outstanding rating from Ofsted and from its Statutory Inspection of Anglian and Methodist Schools (SIAMS).The Minster School is one of the oldest continuous educational foundations in England, tracing its origins to the establishment of Southwell Minster and the education of the choristers. We are still very fortunate to benefit from uniquely close links with the cathedral and this relationship enriches many aspects of school life. Juxtaposed with tradition is the contemporary setting in custom-built accommodation and our daily efforts to ensure students are well equipped not only academically but also with the skills and attitudes to help them succeed in a rapidly changing world.
Junior School
Every student is supported to succeed at The Minster Junior School. The curriculum is designed to make sure all pupils make excellent progress towards the expected standards in reading, writing and maths. The curriculum is carefully mapped out to ensure junior school pupils receive the full curriculum experience, including specialist provision in many subjects provided by teachers from the main school.Homework (usually around 1 hour per week) is a part of the school’s expectations and this largely focuses on the development of the core skills needed to succeed at the end of key stage 2, including practising maths problem-solving, reading and learning spellings. The school has a track record of success with more than 80% of pupils achieving the required national standards at the end of junior school in each of the last three years.
Sixth Form
Becoming a Sixth Former is an exciting time and in choosing the Minster School you become part of an inclusive community and aim to be the best you can be. It is pleasing that so many of you stay with us from the main school and it’s great that the Sixth Form has a large number of students from schools across Nottinghamshire. As a Minster School Sixth Former, your experience is so much more than A Levels alone and the enrichment programme enables you to develop in leadership roles and participate in clubs, overseas visits and listen to visiting speakers.
Music
The Nottinghamshire Music Education Hub is group of music organisations and schools working together to provide the best possible music making opportunities for children and young people in Nottinghamshire through key stage 1 to 5 and is supported by public funding from the DfE and Arts Council England. They are delighted to be working with the Nottinghamshire Music Hub to help deliver this vision for children and young people in Nottinghamshire.
School-to-School Support
The Minster Learning Alliance has a wealth of experience in supporting school improvement and has a range of accredited leaders of education available for deployment. All deployments are negotiated and brokered to ensure they meet the specific needs of the schools receiving support and are available on a ‘one-off’ basis or as part of larger plans of support. Deployments are for a minimum of half a day and are designed to develop the knowledge, skills and practice of the school’s own staff - leaving a legacy of increased capacity for the future, not just a ‘quick fix’ to address an immediate issue.
Selection Criteria: Selective
The Minster School has three main points of intake for new students. These are for students transferring to secondary school at the beginning of year 7, after completing Key Stage 4 education and moving to Sixth Form, and in our Junior School. They also accept in-year admissions if there are places available.
