The Orion Primary School is a State Primary School for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
The Orion Primary is part of the Gold Star Federation. Together with Goldbeaters they serve a community of around 1500 children. They believe that life for the pupils should be sunny, happy and incredibly special. Life here is NOT just a series of lessons. The very special environment and weekly events play a key part in giving children endless learning opportunities. Pupils develop a passion for life and a level of happiness that accelerates their learning. Here is a quick flavour of life in our world: GO FEST an arts and cultural 6 week festival, Word Up an 8 week literacy festival, Theatre school, Sports academy, Days like, Smile Day, World Peace Day. They are not just a school! The Arts Hub, housed in the theatre and studios, provides opportunity for children to join subsidised classes in dance and drama. At the weekend they run the Go Stars football club. All pupils stay an extra evening in school to join the talent school and they can join the excellence academies.
Curriculum
The child is at the centre of everything they do at The Orion. the curriculum is built on strong pedagogical principles, with every child encouraged to meet and achieve their potential. We make it our aim to discover what children are good at and, along with a very strong school ethos, they use this to promote a positive attitude to learning. The diversity of our school population, where our pupil community speak over 60 different languages, is reflected in the curriculum they deliver. It is broad and balanced, with opportunities for all pupils to celebrate, share, and learn about their different cultural and spiritual beliefs and to also feel proud of their British culture and identity. The pupils enjoy an enquiry based curriculum where there is a clear development of essential skills and knowledge. Many pupils may not have access at home to the learning and experiences that may be enjoyed by other children and our approach redresses that imbalance. The pupils are guided to develop a deep love of learning through curriculum content which is designed to be life enhancing. It is inclusive of every pupil.
Breakfast Club
They have a large breakfast club which opens every day from 7.30am. Children can choose from cereals, toasts and cooked breakfast foods each day. After breakfast, children have supervised indoor play and then line up with their classes for registration.
After School Hub
They have a new after school hub from the end of the school day to 6pm now running. Children have tea, do activities and homework and can play together under the supervision of school staff.
Adult Learning
They run many adult learning courses on our site either at The Orion or Goldbeaters. Parents can enrol on courses to learn sewing skills, hairdressing skills, first aid and to take part in parenting workshops and much more. The courses are all run in collaboration with Barnet and Southgate College. The courses are provided free of charge. A £5 donation to the school is required to cover costs of refreshments.
