Reception to Year 2
Classes for children from Reception through to Year 2 are housed in Highleigh, our fantastic purpose-built building. Many of our young ‘Pelicans’ take the next step of their Prebendal journey when they join Pre Pre-Prep, making them natural greeters for those coming into our school for the first time.Small classes ensure plenty of individual attention. Led by dedicated teachers, each committed to giving children the best possible start to their school life, Pre Prep at Prebendal has a warm family atmosphere and is a secure and happy place in which to learn, grow and play.
Year 3 to Year 8
To instil and inspire a love of learning is one of Prebendal’s most fundamental aims. Small classes allow teaching staff to focus on the individual needs and abilities of each child, giving every pupil the very best chance of achieving their full potential.In Years 3 and 4 the learning pathway is concentrated on developing the excellent foundation work laid by our Pre-Prep Department. Core subjects form the solid base of a carefully designed curriculum, with an enriching and varied range of subjects completing the timetable. From Year 5 upwards subject specialist teachers are used exclusively.Beneath the school’s umbrella of praise and encouragement the progress of each pupil’s learning is closely and regularly monitored. Parents are informed through formal written reports, attainment and effort grades and meetings as well as informal consultations should specific concerns arise.

Creative Prebendal
Young children have a boundless enthusiasm for imaginative play and exploring their environment and it is important that this encouraged and developed as they progress through their school years.At The Prebendal, they encourage the children to think creatively, be innovative, to solve problems, to adapt to change and to work together. These are all important life skills that need to be nurtured and we ensure that creativity and fun are key elements of the curriculum.
Music & Concerts
They have developed an impressive reputation as a centre for musical excellence – music for all is our guiding philosophy and it can be heard throughout the School from dawn until dusk. Approximately 95% of our pupils play one musical instrument or more and the School buzzes with enthusiasm and commitment as the children make the most of their opportunities. Every child receives specialist musical education and there is an emphasis on practical music-making across every year group.
Sports
The EYFS and Key Stage One schemes of work focus on the FUNdamental programme which promotes physical literacy. Lessons are skills-based and develop core aspects, agility, balance and co-ordination. These are achieved through sports such as gymnastics, swimming, invasion games and striking and fielding. The Year 2’s are also invited to take part in one games session a week with the Prep School children. This allows the children to develop their skills further in a more structured games environment, preparing them fully for Year 3.
