The Skinners' School was opened in Tunbridge Wells in 1887. The current roll is 1119, with 325 in the Sixth Form. Skinners' aims to achieve academic excellence for all its pupils, whilst at the same time developing their independence as learners. We also believe very strongly in learning outside the classroom, through co-curricular and extra-curricular activity. We are thus preparing our pupils for life beyond school and want them to play significant role in their communities and in society as a whole.
The Skinners' School (formally The Skinners' Company's Middle School for Boys and commonly known as Skinners'), is a British Grammar School with academy status for boys located in the town of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. Established in 1887, the school was founded by the Worshipful Company of Skinners (one of the 108 livery companies of the City of London) in response to a demand for education in the region. Today Skinners' remains an all-boys grammar school, recently awarded specialist status in science and mathematics in recognition of these disciplines' excellent teaching. The current enrolment is 1119 pupils, of whom around 325 are in the sixth form. The first headmaster was Reverend Frederick Knott, after whom Knott House is named. The current Headmaster is Edward Wesson.

Drama
The drama department is a vibrant and innovative department. We pride ourselves on inspiring a strong work ethic amongst the students, both as individuals and as members of a group. With this at the heart of the department it allows us to produce work of the highest standard at GCSE and A level. This is not only down to outstanding teaching but having the means to create an inspirational environment. We have a multi-purpose theatre with excellent technical facilities. At exam level the students are given the opportunity to explore the potential effects of sound and lighting.
Music
At Key Stage 3 we teach an enjoyable mixture of theoretical, listening, composing and performing skills. At GCSE boys hone their acquired skills in popular or classical styles to gain high levels of success and prepare for further study.
Other Extra-Curricular
They believe in the widest range of extra-curricular activity to enrich students' school days and to complement his academic curriculum. We try to match the activities to the imagination of the boys and we welcome their initiative in establishing activities that mirror their own interests.

Sixth Form Entry
The Sixth Form should be the most challenging, exciting and enjoyable time you spend at school. Challenging, as the work will get progressively harder and there will be increasing demands on you, exciting as you will have the opportunity to try new things, and enjoyable as you are no longer in compulsory education but have chosen to accept a place with us and study the A-Levels that you are best at and enjoy the most. There is a much greater emphasis on independent study in the Sixth Form and you will be expected to work hard not only in the classroom, but also in non-contact periods at school and extensively at home – we recommend a minimum of 2 to 3 hours per night.
