The Study Preparatory School is Independent Primary school in Merton for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Girls )
Warm, welcoming, vibrant and imaginative… these are the words that stayed with me when first visited The Study. As interim head of this thriving and successful school, which has been at the very heart of girls’ education in Wimbledon since 1893, I’m proud to say its unique ethos embodies these four words and so much more. The girls’ happiness is at the heart of everything we do at The Study. We strive to inspire them in their learning, guiding them to become confident young women who respect the traditional values of manners and empathy while having the courage to think independently and be curious and creative.Striving for academic excellence forms the foundation of all that we do, but alongside this our creative curriculum promotes a passion for trying new skills and developing new interests. We believe you can’t assess potential at three years old and our proudly non-selective policy gives every girl an equal opportunity to access a modern, forward-thinking education.
EARLY YEARS LEARNING
They believe it’s vitally important that the first step into full-time education is a positive, happy experience – this is our focus in Early Years. From Reception your daughter will learn to take initiative, work hard and to think independently. The aim is not only to ensure Study girls grow in academic knowledge but also in skills and confidence, so they are ready for their senior school journey by 11+ and the world beyond this.
CREATIVE CURRICULUM
At Wilberforce House, our pre-prep learning is centred around the creative curriculum. All subjects are taught under the umbrella of a different creative theme each term and our curriculum is brought to life through engaging and memorable experiences. Each topic provides a new learning journey with a story woven throughout the term, all featuring a Stunning Start, a Marvellous Middle and a Fabulous Finish.
SPECIALIST TEACHING AND FACILITIES
Study girls benefit from specialist teaching from Reception onwards, within facilities designed to enhance their wellbeing and learning experience. In pre-prep, specialist teachers in Music, French, computing, PE, and ballet teach the girls. Drama is taught by a dedicated teacher from year 3 onwards.
SPORTS CURRICULUM
The sports curriculum is designed to maximise participation and inclusivity so all pupils benefit, regardless of their ability or interest. From Reception through to Year 6, children get to experience a broad programme of individual and team-based sporting activities.
CO-CURRICULAR CLUBS
From Year 1 onwards we offer a wide range of clubs, and they encourage all pupils to take part in these activities as we recognise their role in building confidence, self esteem and a growth mindset. The clubs on offer have been carefully selected to suit pupils across all year groups and designed to appeal to all interests and abilities – there’s something for everyone.
TRIPS & RESIDENTIALS
Hardly a week goes by at The Study without a school trip. Our trips are carefully selected so girls are learning new facts and skills to help them gain a deeper understanding of their academic subjects in an interactive way.Trips to farms and wildlife centres underscore scientific learning, outings to art galleries enrich cultural understanding and unforgettable choir trips give the girls a chance to sing at world renowned venues such as York Minster, The Royal Albert Hall and the Menin Gate.
Selection Criteria: Selective
The Study is proudly non-selective at Reception. It’s our firm belief that every child has potential and we are hugely experienced in taking girls at every level and supporting them to thrive.
