They are a high achieving selective grammar school with academy status, educating girls between the ages of 11 and 16 and girls and boys in the Sixth Form. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we blend the best of a traditional curriculum with the principles and ethos of the IB Organisation. This offers our students opportunities to learn in breadth and depth in order to develop as well-balanced individuals. They become active learners and are encouraged to be passionate about making a difference in the world.
Middle Years Programme (Yrs 7-9)
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) endeavours to develop active, compassionate and lifelong learners. The rigorous and diverse programme offers students the opportunity to explore strengths, improve confidence and focus on areas for development. In the lower school, students experience a broad and balanced range of 8 subject groups: English Language, Languages, Humanities, Design, Mathematics, Sciences, Arts and Physical Education.
Transition Curriculum (Yrs 10-11)
Acquiring the learning skills and attributes to become an independent learner underpins the curriculum experience for in the Upper School. Lessons prepare for outstanding success at GCSE and for the demands of the IB Diploma Programme in the Sixth Form. Learning is designed to develop higher order thinking skills and increases significantly in intellectual challenge as students progress through the school.
Sixth Form Curriculum
Students choose one option from each group, selecting 3 subjects to study at Higher Level (HL) and 3 at Standard Level (SL) as well as the Core programme. Each subject attracts a maximum of 7 points, regardless of the level studied, and the Core supplies the extra 3 points to make the maximum mark of 45. The Diploma is awarded to students achieving at least 24 points.
Beyond the Classroom
From the Action! afternoons for Year 7 and 8 students, to opportunities to get involved in STEAM projects to a wide range of sporting and music opportunities, there is something for everyone. They strongly believe that no student should be excluded from any aspect of the education and activities that we offer. You can find out more about our ‘Supporting Every Child’ Programme
Library
Books are carefully selected by teaching staff, the librarian and students to support the academic progress and interests of students, as well as providing a wide diet of titles to support reading for pleasure. They’re fortunate to have a professional librarian, who teaches the research skills that underpin the IB Diploma and the MYP.
