The school has grown and evolved a great deal since we first opened our doors in February 2012. They are now a full Secondary School for girls and Sixth form. The Early Years and Foundation Stage provision recently relocated to a newly refurbished site. The Primary phase now has Year 1 to Year 4 classes with a view to becoming a full Primary School over the coming years.School leaders and governors are always looking to improve our educational offer. They are working in partnership with leading schools in the North West to continue improving attainment and our overall learning experience.You will be happy to know that two of our unqualified teachers have recently achieved Qualified Teacher Status through the Assessment Only route accredited by a regional Teacher Training provider. Four of our NQTs completed their induction with us through Oldham Council and an additional five staff are completing their induction at present.
Kindergarten
Westwood Kindergarten is home to the Early Years and Foundation Stage provision. We have children attending from all over Oldham. The aim is to become ‘your child’s first school’. It is hard to explain the enthusiasm and excitement that fills the setting when our staff and children are at play. They take great care in ensuring that our children are loved and cared for.The Kindergarten is located in a newly refurbished site with spacious classrooms and outdoor provision. They cater for all children aged 3-5 years.Our Early Years Supervisor will be more than happy to meet with prospective parents
Preparatory
Westwood Prep is the Primary phase of our school. The low learner-teacher ratio allows us to deliver a more child-centred education. Teachers are able to focus on preparing stimulating activities to enable effective teaching and learning. The Islamic ethos aims to support a learning programme that is sensitive to the needs of Muslim parents. They hope that the educational offer will prepare your child for both the challenges and opportunities of modern Britain.
Secondary
Westwood High is committed to unlocking the potential of all learners. The curriculum aims to help all learners achieve academic success through a broad, balanced and intellectually stimulating education. It seeks to provide learners with opportunities to fulfil individual potential both through independent effort and collective endeavour. The curriculum will embed the love of learning and support learners in developing enquiring minds.The aim of the curricular provision is, ultimately, to enable learners to benefit from the opportunities of adult life and to face its challenges. Learners will be encouraged to take on responsibilities in school, offered guidance and counselling to prepare them for the transition to the world of work. They will develop essential communication and interpersonal skills before they leave school.
Sixth Form
The newly established sixth form aims to continue setting high standards for all learners so that they can pursue the career path of their choice. We will continue working with learners and their parents to ensure a smooth and well supported transition from school to higher education or the world of work.Sixth form learning is a little more challenging yet equally exciting. You will be expected to become less dependent on your tutors. Staff will help you develop independent learning skills which will equip you for University education. The enrichment programme will nurture essential life skills required for the world of work. They believe that exceptional attendance and punctuality and the ability to meet deadlines are key to success in Sixth form.
