Wrekin College is an independent co-educational boarding and day school for kids aged 11 to 18.

Year 7 entry: The 11+ Entrance Examination is the basic requirement for entry to Wrekin College. It assesses potential pupils’ ability to cope with the academic life of Wrekin; if a pupil shows this potential and places are available, a place will be offered. No special preparation is required or expected for this examination. The 11+ Entrance Examination consists of papers in Mathematics, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The papers are based on the existing Year 6 curriculum. Entrance exemplar papers are available on request from our Admissions team.
Year 9 Entry: Entry to Wrekin College is by examination, either Common Entrance, Open Scholarship or Wrekin College's own test papers. The Wrekin College 13+ examinations take place in November prior to the year of entry. All pupils at prep schools take Common Entrance exams and are expected to reach the pass-mark of 50%.
Sixth form entry: Entry into the Sixth Form is conditional on GCSE grades, reports from the student’s current school and interview. All prospective Sixth Form candidates are also required to attend the Sixth Form Entrance Day, where they will have the opportunity to meet current pupils and staff. They will also have an interview with the Headmaster and other members of the Senior Management Team.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS: Academic Scholarships are by invitation only and are awarded at normal entry points of 11, 13 and 16 – so candidates should be under 12, under 14 or under 17 on September 1st of the year in which they will enter the school. Age may be taken into account when comparing candidates, so that those who are young for their year are not disadvantaged.
MUSIC, ART, PERFORMING ART, DANCE AND DESIGN SCHOLARSHIPS: Assessments for these awards usually take place in November prior to the year of entry. Music Scholarships also carry a specified amount of free instrumental and/or vocal tuition. Candidates for these awards must satisfy the school’s normal academic entry requirements.
SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS: Sports Scholarships may be awarded to candidates with outstanding ability in sport. Candidates should be capable of a very significant contribution to the sporting success of Wrekin College in their chosen discipline. Typically candidates will have competed at regional or national level. Candidates for these awards must attend a sports assessment day and satisfy the school’s normal academic entry requirements.
PENDLE AWARDS: Pendle Awards may be offered to all-rounders who show high academic ability and excellence in other areas such as sport, music or art. Those seeking a Pendle Award must sit the Academic Scholarship Examination, either at 11+, 13+ or 16+ level, and meet scholarship standard in at least one other area.
INTERNAL SCHOLARSHIPS:
Second Form: All of Second Form will be assessed for an award going into Third Form at the end of the Academic Year, so they have got a full picture of them throughout the academic year. They will then be able to assess in particular their Sport, Music, Academic, Drama, Art etc, and will be able to see if they have got their Challenge Grades.
Fifth Form: All of Fifth Form will be assessed for an award going into Sixth Form once their GCSE results are out in August, so they have got a full picture of them throughout the academic year. They will then be able to assess in particular his Sport, Music, Academics, Drama, Art etc, and will be able to see if they have got their Challenge Grades at GCSE.
