The Old Hall School’s facilities are exceptional and provide an outstanding environment in which to learn. The School moved from its original site on the Holyhead Road in 2006 and in doing so became one of the best resourced preparatory schools in the country. Lower school
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a statutory framework for children from birth to the end of the school year in which the child’s fifth birthday falls. The Reception classes and the Pre-School class of Daisy Chain at The Old Hall work closely together to experience a rich and stimulating curriculum. The Pre-School children enjoy activities led by The Old Hall's Early Years Co-ordinator. All children are actively encouraged to build upon their enthusiasm for knowledge and learning.The learning environment is carefully organised so that the children are offered a wide variety of opportunities to explore, experiment, plan and make excellent progress: thus they develop as real individuals, according to their particular talents and needs, whilst also learning to take their rightful places in the community.
Upper School
The transition into Year 3 can be a little daunting for some children, which is why they aim to make it as seamless and happy as possible. The children gradually become more and more independent as they are nurtured through this first phase of the Upper School. In Year 3, the children continue to spend much of their time with their own class teacher but have specialist teaching in DT (Design Technology), IT (Information Technology), PE (Physical Education), Games, Swimming, French and RS (Religious Studies). Pupils are placed in sets according to ability in Mathematics throughout the Upper School.As the children move through the Upper School (Key Stage 2 - 7 to 11 years), they experience a tutorial system where they see specialist teachers for most subjects. Individual Form Tutors are responsible for their pupils’ pastoral care and guide them through all aspects of day to day organisation.

PE AND GAMES
Physical Education, Games and Swimming are viewed as vital elements of a full and rounded Old Hall education. The benefits and contribution of physical exercise to the general well-being of our pupils are evident throughout the whole school, from the youngest children making their first foray into the games arena to the most competitive boys and girls, who represent both school and county in a variety of sports at Under 11.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Outdoor-pursuits courses form an important part of our pupils’ education and bring them face-to-face with completely new activities and team building experiences. Children from Years 3 to 6 are offered the chance to attend residential centres, where they participate in all manner of activities designed to challenge them and equip them with a variety of leadership opportunities and important life skills, in addition to confidence and team building.
MUSIC
Music is a prominent and vibrant feature in the life of the school. It is timetabled for all age groups and is taught by the Director of Music from Years 2 to 6. Lessons encompass vocal and instrumental work as a class, in groups and as individuals. There are concerts in every term. These provide for the large number of pupils receiving individual tuition as well as whole year group items. Informal lunchtime concerts also take place – usually organised in turn by the team of 10 visiting instrument teachers. They offer tuition on virtually all orchestral instruments in addition to piano, recorder, voice and drum kit. They have a variety of instrumental groups and three choirs. Each term pupils to take Associated Board exams where levels of success are consistently high.
DRAMA
This subject is timetabled alongside Music for Years 3 to 6. Far from being a curricular luxury, Educational Drama has an important role to play in the development of every child. Through appropriately structured activities it meets a wide range of short, medium and long-term goals that benefit both personal and educational development. Its core aims are to develop self confidence, teamwork, empathy and organisational skills through practical experience. Drama allows all children to explore and develop ideas without being restricted by or to the written word. Drama is another strength of the School.
