Bethlem Museum of the Mind is a museum focusing on the history of Bethlem Royal Hospital, its programme of care, and its patients. Opened in 2015, the museum is housed in an Art Deco building shared with the Bethlem Gallery, which hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists who are current or former patients.

  • Art Collection: Our art collection comprises around 1,000 works, including paintings, drawings, ceramics and textiles. Our catalogue is available online and can be accessed here. If you would like to use one of our artworks for a publication, please visit Bridgeman Images who manage the majority of such requests on our behalf.
  • Archives: The Museum cares for the archives of Bethlem Royal Hospital, the Maudsley Hospital and Warlingham Park Hospital. You can browse our archive catalogue to find out what records we hold, and view digital images of selected documents in the catalogue’s gallery section.
