Chislehurst Caves has a labyrinth of man-made tunnels, forming a maze covering over 6 Hectares and are up to 30 metres below the homes and woodlands above.The caves have been carved out over hundreds of years. Now the caves are open as a tourist attraction and education centre with a gift shop and Café catering for visitors, group outings, private functions and children’s parties. Chislehurst Caves offers miles of intersecting tunnels, and thousands of years of history.There are approximately 22 miles of dark, mysterious crisscrossing passageways. All hewn by hand from the chalk, forming a maze. They cover more than 6 hectares 65 meters deep, beneath the woodlands and houses of Chislehurst.Your guide will take you on a 45-minute tour and tells stories of the Druids, The Romans, and the Saxons. Hear and see what happened in the caves during The Great War (WW1). Exploring The Caves: Everyone wanting to explore the caves must join a lamp-lit guided tour.The caves are a labyrinth of dark mysterious passageways which you would be unlikely to find your way through unaided.Tours leave on the hour and half hour and last for around 45-50 minutes, you can book a tour before you visit online or on the day from the ticket office.The number of people on each tour depends on demand and there is no minimum number for a tour to take place. Normally at busy times the place limits the tours to a maximum of 40 people.

Evening Tours of the Caves: Evening tours can be arranged and the caves can open from 5.30pm onwards, opening and tour times for evening tours can be discussed and agreed with the caves manager.

Daytime Group Tours of the Caves: Group tours can be arranged for up to 40 people to have a tour of the caves at fifteen minutes past the hour, the earliest at 10.15am and the latest at 3.15pm.

Children School Trip Group Tours: The Caves are ideal for school visits and the weather is no problem underground. The tour lasts for around 45-50 minutes.The tours cover many aspects of the Curriculum from simple Light & Dark, Rocks & Soils, Stone Age, Roman, Saxon right up to the Second World War, when the caves became one of the largest air raid shelters in the country.

Opening Times: The caves are open Wednesdays to Sunday, on Bank Holidays (except Christmas and New Year) and every day during local school holidays.

Take the A222 between the A20 and A21. At the railway bridge by Chislehurst Station, turn into Station Approach, turn right at the end then right again into Caveside Close.

By Rail
The Caves are a short walk from Chislehurst Railway Station, which is only 30 minutes from London Bridge.There are regular trains to Chislehurst from Charing Cross and London Bridge, from the station turn left into Station Approach and follow the above directions.

By Bus to Chislehurst Railway Station
The 269 runs between Bromley and Bexleyheath and the 162 runs between Beckenham and Eltham.
There is free car park and coach parking for visitors to the caves.
