  • Gunsgreen House was built in 1753 by the notorious smuggler, John Nisbet, who built the house with a tea chute, vast cellars and hidden spaces to hide his smuggled goods, most often tea.
  • Gunsgreen House tells the story of its’ past through the ‘Smuggling Experience’, a fun and interactive museum, as well as tours through the historical rooms on the other floors.
  • A great visitor attraction for all the family. It is full of fun and adventures for children. We are a ‘hands on’ attraction where children are welcome to explore and touch as they go.
  • Complete the smuggling trail, find those pesky hidden rats and dress up as a smuggler as you discover clues and secrets on your way around the house.
  • Children will love exploring the creepy cellars and crawling through the secret tunnel. ​From the parents point of view, there is lots for children to do and look at- meaning you will have time to read things of interest yourself as they complete their challenges.
  • The house is also a great event and wedding venue, as well as available to rent as self-catering accommodation, sleeping up to 11 people in the Merchant’s House and a further 2 in Nisbet’s Tower.

  • By Car: Driving into Eyemouth from the A1 take the A1107 into Eyemouth and at the roundabout pass the High School on your right, taking the first exit towards the town. When you see the brown heritage sign, take a right turn onto ‘The Avenue’, continuing until you see Gunsgreen House, then take a left down into the free car park.
  • By Foot: By foot, Gunsgreen House is easily accessible from Eyemouth town centre, simply walk along the ‘Middle Pier’ and over the little red bridge and you will be at the house. There are signs around town to make this easier for you.
