The centre also serves as an official ABRS Test Centre, allowing riders to take recognised assessments on-site.
  • Horses & Ponies: A diverse range of horses and ponies is available, suitable for both children and adults. Lessons are offered on the flat as well as over jumps, catering to different levels of experience. Horses and ponies are carefully selected to suit beginners through to riders working towards low-level dressage and jumping.
  • Lessons: All riders attending lessons for the first time at Houston must complete a Riders’ Registration Form before arrival. The form can be downloaded from the “Riding Lessons / Downloads” section on the website or requested via email. Completing this form in advance ensures a smooth start to the lesson.
  • Group Lessons: Group lessons of 30 minutes are designed for adults and children learning the basics of riding. These sessions teach riders how to walk, halt, trot, maintain balance, and guide the horse or pony. Participants are also introduced to walking and trotting over small poles, providing a solid foundation for progressing to the next level.
  • Stable Management Lessons: Stable management lessons typically run for one hour and provide practical knowledge of horse and pony care. Participants learn essential skills such as cleaning tack, brushing horses or ponies, and cleaning out stables, along with other important aspects of day-to-day care.
  • Private Lessons: Private lessons offer focused, one-to-one instruction aimed at improving equestrian skills. These sessions can be tailored to individual needs, whether in flatwork, stable management, jumping, side saddle, or lungeing. With undivided attention from the instructor, riders benefit from a personalised approach to training.
  • Riding Hats: Riding hats are available to borrow free of charge for anyone participating in a lesson who does not have their own. This ensures all riders are equipped with the appropriate safety gear during their sessions.
