Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is a historic heritage railway offering steam and diesel train journeys through the heart of Brontë Country in West Yorkshire. Running for nearly five miles between Keighley and Oxenhope, it brings Yorkshire’s railway history to life in a relaxed and scenic setting. The railway is famous worldwide as the filming location for The Railway Children and its recent sequel.

Visitors can enjoy steam and heritage diesel train journeys along a line with six stations: Keighley, Ingrow, Damems, Oakworth, Haworth, and Oxenhope. Highlights include Railstory at Ingrow, the iconic Oakworth Station from The Railway Children, views of Pennine villages and countryside, and exhibitions showcasing historic locomotives, carriages, and rail equipment. The railway also offers special events, film heritage experiences, and access to cafés, museums, and village attractions along the route.

Day Rover tickets on the day cost £23.00 for adults and £11.50 for children (5–15), with children under 5 free. Online Day Rover tickets (booked 3 days in advance) cost £20.70 for adults and £10.35 for children, while Full Line Return tickets cost £16.00 for adults and £8.00 for children. Family tickets are available, and The Ultimate Birthday Adventure costs £18.50 per child, with a minimum of 12 children.

From industrial Keighley to the wild landscapes of Brontë Country, this five-mile heritage railway brings Yorkshire’s past to life. Travel behind steam or diesel locomotives, relax, and enjoy the journey. Built to serve the local mill trades in the late 19th Century, the Railway is just over 4 1/2 miles long, yet still manages to pack in six stations.
RAIL STORY results from a collaboration between the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, the Vintage Carriages Trust and the Bahamas Locomotive Society, giving visitors greater opportunities to learn about and understand the preservation and conservation of our railway heritage.

Stations

Keighley: Keighley is the KWVR’s northern terminus and is conveniently located just on the edge of the town centre, so you’re just a short walk from all that the town centre has to offer. It is split into two halves. Our half of the station oozes 1950s British Railways atmosphere, and there are loads to see on platforms 3 and 4, while across platforms 1 and 2 are the connections with national mainline rail services to Bradford, Carlisle, Leeds, Skipton and the West Coast.
Ingrow: A centre of education and historic excellence, home to Railstory. Ingrow is the first stop on your journey from Keighley up to Haworth and Oxenhope and this amazing little station packs plenty into its site alongside the main Keighley to Halifax Road (A629). Your first intermediate station on the journey to Oxenhope is Ingrow West. Situated one and quarter miles from Keighley, this is a station with its own special history.
Damems: The smallest operating passenger station in the United Kingdom is not easily accessible by road but it’s well worth the trouble of seeking it out or breaking your journey between Ingrow and Oakworth to sample Damem’s unique atmosphere. Small but perfectly formed is a great description of Damems – the Keighley & Worth Valley and Britain’s smallest railway station. Nestling in a wooded section of the Worth Valley, Damems, is now a request stop two miles from Keighley.
Oakworth: Remember Mr Perks and the emotional ‘Daddy, my Daddy’ from the1970 film ‘The Railway Children’? If you do, then Oakworth Station is the place for you. The station between Damems and Haworth was used as the main centre for the still-popular 1970 Lionel Jeffries-directed version of E. Nesbit’s novel and the film’s spiritual presence is everywhere. Besides being one of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway’s principal intermediate stops Oakworth’s Edwardian-style station has been guaranteed a place in cinematic history from its ‘starring’ role in the Lionel Jeffries 1971 classic film version of Edith Nesbit’s book, ‘The Railway Children’.
Haworth: The Brontës, steam and moorland. You can’t miss out on Haworth. No matter what time of the year you arrive, you visit this well-known village, and you can plan with confidence because there’s always something to see and do. Twenty minutes after leaving Keighley, you enter a world of steam, literature, and Victorian architecture. Haworth, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway’s principal intermediate station, is three and a half miles from the modern townscape of Keighley and attracts visitors from around the world because from 1820.
Oxenhope: The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway’s southern terminus is four and three-quarter miles from Keighley. Here, you can start or finish your journey on the railway as the station has ample free parking. Just a minute’s walk from the village centre, Oxenhope station has always been busy. Under British Railways, the station became unstaffed in 1955, as did Ingrow, with the station master for the line being based at Haworth.

By Bus: Transdev Keighley Bus Company buses serve Keighley, Skipton, Ilkley, Bradford, Leeds and surrounding areas.
By Train: Keighley station is on the National Rail network. There are fast electric trains to Leeds & Bradford Forster Square every 30 minutes Monday – Saturday with an hourly service on Sundays. In Addition, Keighley is also served by long-distance trains between Leeds, Lancaster, Morecambe and, Carlisle & London Kings Cross.
