This lovely, sheltered space has been carefully landscaped and tended over the years and is now a well-established, walled haven of peace and beauty. It can be enjoyed from the seating area or the walkways, there are picnic tables where you can relax and enjoy your tea and cakes in the Shetland sunshine.

  • The Old Haa is a museum: The Old Haa is a museum, garden and tearoom in the island of Yell in Shetland. Hosting a collection of historic objects, and an archive alongside a programme of contemporary arts and crafts exhibitions, the museum is free and open to all.
  • Collections: The Old Haa has a large collection of artefacts, some of which are on permanent display. They are used as appropriate in seasonal history exhibitions, and you can find several of them on display throughout the museum.
  • Exhibitions: The Lower History Room houses a wide selection of local artefacts, providing a unique opportunity to look into Yell’s social history. And more to explore.
  • The Garden: This lovely, sheltered space has been carefully landscaped and tended over the years and is now a well-established, walled haven of peace and beauty. It can be enjoyed from the seating area or the walkways, there are picnic tables where you can relax and enjoy your tea and cakes in the Shetland sunshine. There are pleasant areas where children can play.  The walkways allow you to wander at will while you enjoy a large variety of flowers and plants and the ambience all adds to a very relaxing experience.

Facilities

  • Parking: We have a car park which can hold up to 6 cars across the road from the Old Haa, which makes it easy to access the Old Haa and garden.   
  • Food & Drinks: We have a café where you can buy tea/coffee/juice and delicious homebakes.  Ask museum assistant for more information about allergies.
  • Dogs: Assistance dogs are allowed.  Unfortunately, as much as we love animals, we cannot allow any others inside the Old Haa for safety and allergy reasons.
