Features

Things to note

Senior Curriculum
The excellent academic results are achieved because they encourage a culture of high expectations.  They set a brisk academic pace and the boys and girls are encouraged to realize their potential in a setting which is conducive to learning.Pupils enjoy and achieve by developing new skills, broadening their knowledge and growing in confidence. Pupils are well informed, prepared to meet the challenges of higher education and to take leading roles in society.

Nursery & Prep Co-ed aged 3 - 11
They try to make learning fun and put in a bit of 'extra' challenge with a special focus on mathematics and literacy. We also put an emphasis on the children's personal, social, emotional and physical development and put a lot of effort into developing their communication and language skills.  Our careful curriculum planning incorporates a number of elements such as playing and exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically.

Key Stage 1
Key Stage 1 consists of Year 1 and 2.  The pupils are taught in classes with both a qualified teacher and teaching assistant in each class. This ensures that each child continues to receive the individual attention that they need and that we at Babington House are renowned for.  The teaching and learning becomes more formal in these year groups and the subjects, although taught in a cross curricular way, begin to have their own identity (for example Maths, English and Phonics).

Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 includes pupils from Year 3 – 6 and provides the final stage in their primary (or at Babington, Preparatory) education. The Preparatory years provide the foundation for a successful senior school education, to this end pupils in Key Stage 2 experience the benefit of specialist subject teaching.  We set a brisk academic pace and pursue a challenging curriculum.  The pupils are taught Maths and English by their Class Teachers and gradually some specialist subject teachers are introduced in Languages, PE, Music and Art.

Sixth Form
The focus of Babington's Sixth Form is very much on well-honed and fully supported academic endeavour so our students can achieve the grades they need to get to the top universities in the country. They specialise in intensive A Level tuition and enjoy small sets where a bespoke teaching approach can be tailored to the individual needs of each young person. Students receive regular written reports from each subject.  This gives them, and their parents, invaluable feedback on their progression.

Extra Curricular

Music
Music at Babington House thrives as an academic subject, as an extra-curricular activity and an integral part of the school's assemblies and church services. The Recital Room offers the most up-to-date music technology, enabling pupils to develop their writing skills in composition.

Trips & Outings
The Sixth Form have the opportunity to go on trips to support their A level choices. Sixth Form pupils have enjoyed trips to the theatre, Chemistry and Biology in Action, Political conferences, as well as work experience at home and abroad.Sixth Form pupils also have the opportunity to undertake worthy volunteering projects abroad, recently raising money and awareness for charitable projects in Borneo.

Clubs

These clubs reflect the interests of the staff and prefects who run them and are a great way for the different year groups to mix together.

Art

Art plays an important part in the life of the Prep Department through regular exhibitions, visits to galleries and by livening up our walls. Our newly extended Art and Textiles room reflects the strong creative tradition at Babington House and the girls and boys are encouraged to express themselves through photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, construction and fashion design.

Drama

Drama, like music, binds the school together across its entire age range. The older girls from the Senior School help direct and manage the Preparatory School performances, assisting our committed and highly qualified staff.  The whole school shows and plays are a real highlight of the year, as is the Prep Musical at the end of the Summer Term.
