Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years setting provides a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, nurturing the children as they begin their learning journey through school. In our purpose built Early Years building, children from Nursery and Reception play and learn through a wide range of hands on learning experiences. The curriculum and approach to learning is stimulating, creative and fun. Throughout each day the children in both our Nursery and Reception classes develop their independence, confidence and cognitive skills.
Lower School
In the Lower School, our staff are well qualified and experienced and they plan for each child as an individual. The children study a broad curriculum which balances all areas of learning within stimulating, fun and often investigative learning experiences.Each child is taught most subjects by his or her class teacher, with specialist teachers providing lessons in Physical Education, French, Music and Computing. Parent support is always welcomed and there are often times when we ask for help whether in the classroom, the allotment or out of school on trips. We also provide a wide range of extra curricular activities for our five to seven-year-olds including singing, pet club, string ensemble, ballet, drawing, French and multi-sports. From Year 2, we offer individual tuition in a variety of musical instruments.
Upper School
In the Upper School we aim to create a vibrant learning environment in which all children are allowed to develop and flourish. They provide outstanding opportunities throughout the Upper School in all pursuits: academic, creative, physical, and social. As the children progress through the school they become the role models for the younger children. In Year 6 the children are awarded extra responsibilities that include assisting with, and perhaps leading clubs and activities in other sections of the school, being class monitors, subject monitors, UNICEF Rights Respecting Ambassadors and Prefects.

Music
The thriving music department is overseen by the Director of Music, aided by five peripatetic staff. All children have at least two music lessons per week and explore rhythm, composition and singing. In Year 1, children learn the ocarina as part of the music curriculum and in Year 2 they take up the recorder.There are Christmas productions for the Foundation Stage and Lower School and a Carol Service for the Upper School. Musical productions are performed by Upper School in the summer term.
Sport
They aim to nurture and develop the competence and confidence of all children in a range of activities. A balanced provision of ‘sport for all’ and competitive opportunities allows children to leave us with a lifelong passion for sport and physical activity.Through a varied Physical Education curriculum, children have the opportunity to develop physically and creatively through activities such as athletics, table tennis, dance, basketball, fitness, tennis, tag rugby and football.
Clubs
They have a range of sport-based, arts-based and skill-based clubs and activities after-school, run both by St Olave’s staff and outside expert providers. They encourage children to make the most of the different extra curricular opportunities afforded to them throughout each year at school. At the same time, we ask parents to take into account that their child will also need time to rest, play and complete all academic assignments.
