Birkenhead School is an independent, academically-selective, co-educational day school  for kids aged 1 to 18

  • Located within the leafy suburb of Oxton in Birkenhead, the School enjoys a stunning setting for its campus, with the sports field at its centre, overlooked by the beautiful cricket pavilion and Chapel.
  • The open campus provides space for students, adding to the sense of community throughout the School and with each section having its own dedicated area, students have a real sense of progressing through their educational journey.
  • In addition to the picturesque site, the School also benefits from McAllester Field on Bidston Road which provides additional sports facilities and event locations. 
  • The site boasts great travel links and close proximity to the cities of Liverpool and Chester.

Things to note

  • Approximately two thirds of Junior pupils have instrumental lessons with peripatetic music teachers, with some pupils learning more than one instrument. 
  • Children within the Prep take part in a wide range of sports through Games and PE lessons throughout the week and benefit from teaching by specialist sports teachers, from both Prep and Seniors, who have sporting backgrounds.
  • Drama within the Prep offers opportunities for creativity and expression as well as the nurturing of young talent and the development of self-confidence.  
  • They recognise that the classroom is one part of the education on offer at the School and there are a wide range of clubs and activities on offer to entice and excite our pupils.
  • To enhance the learning inside the classroom, sixth form students are offered a range of trips and visits throughout the year to support and enhance the learning undertaken in the classroom; as well as truly inspire and develop our students into responsible young adults.

Full time attendance (five full days per week)   £4,452 per term
8 sessions per week   £4,028 per term
6 sessions per week   £3,021 per term
4 sessions per week   £2,014 per term
2 sessions per week (one full day per week)   £1,007 per term
Each half-day session   £530 per term

Prep:

Reception   £3,025 per term
Prep - Years 1 to 6   £3,450 per term

Senior School and Sixth Form:

Senior School (Years 7 and 8)   £4,225 per term
Senior School (Years 9 to 11)   £4,575 per term
Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13)   £4,575 per term

Scholarships

In addition to bursaries, the School offers:

  • Academic and Music Scholarships for entry into Year 7 in recognition of outstanding potential
  • Honorary Academic Sixth Form Scholarships for outstanding GCSE results
  • Access Scholarships for those entering the Sixth Form with outstanding GCSE results from other schools who would otherwise not be able to access a Birkenhead School education
