Features

Things to note

The sports programme provides students with the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of traditional British sports, including hockey, football, basketball, rugby, athletics, tennis and badminton. Students are introduced to new skills and match situations, with these experiences enhancing personal development.

Taking part in clubs and activities outside of regular classes is a great way to meet new friends and expand your horizons. It also allows you to develop and demonstrate a broad range of interests outside of your studies, something that all top schools look for in applicants.

The extra-curricular programme includes a range of daily sports and morning and evening clubs and activities, designed to foster team spirit and the confidence to integrate with others when students move on from Bishopstrow.

The College is able to arrange other activities such as horse riding, individual music lessons and golf on request and for an additional charge.

Admission Details

The admissions process is designed to be uncomplicated.  Applicants are required to complete the online Application Form and to submit the following documents:

  • A copy of the applicant’s passport, together with a copy of their birth certificate.
  • A stamped copy of the applicant’s most recent School Report.
  • A Character Reference from a teacher or tutor at their current school.
  • Copies of any relevant University of Cambridge English Language Assessment examination certificates, or IELTS study level, if known.

Once they have received the required documentation, applicants are invited to have an online (i.e., Zoom or Teams) or face-to-face interview with a senior member of the academic team.  They are looking for students with a motivation and a real passion to learn not only the English language, but also to learn about British culture and society. Applicants for the One Year IGCSE Programme are also required to sit an entrance test. Following the interview and entrance test (if applicable), the College will offer a Guaranteed Place or a Waiting List Place or decline the application. They encourage prospective students and their parents to visit the College to meet the Principal and the academic team and to explore excellent facilities.

Scholarships

To be considered for a scholarship, students will be assessed as follows:

  • Prior academic achievement;
  • Performance at interview (Zoom, Teams or face-to-face) with a senior member of the College’s academic team, including the ability to show genuine passion and commitment to their chosen academic journey;
  • Performance on the online Password English and Mathematics assessment (to be carried our and invigilated under exam conditions in the student’s home country); and
  • Reference from their current school.

Students enrolling on the One Year IGCSE Programme must have a minimum level of English equivalent to CEFR Level B2 (IELTS 5.5). Scholarships apply to the published fees and are worth up to 20% of the Course fees for the One Year IGCSE Programme.

Bursaries are granted in recognition that there are some parents, or even markets, where programmes are either unaffordable or the fees represent a significant burden. The College supports some families faced with such challenging financial circumstances to ensure their child is able to receive the benefits of a British education. Parents in this position are welcome to apply for Bursary assistance. Bursaries are assessed on the basis of a means-tested assessment relating to the family’s ability to pay. The College will normally award Scholarships and Bursaries, but reserves the right not to do so, if in the opinion of the Principal or the Directors, there is not a suitable candidate.
