Brambletye School is a coeducational day and boarding preparatory school in East Grinstead, West Sussex. It was founded as a small boys' boarding school in Kent between the world wars. The school moved to West Sussex and has since become coeducational.Brambletye was founded at Sidcup Place, Kent in 1919. It moved to its present location in the Sussex countryside on the southern outskirts of East Grinstead in 1933. The main school building, which is in its own wooded estate of 140 acres, overlooks the Ashdown Forest and Weir Wood Reservoir. Brambletye was built in 1896 by Donald Larnach, former director of the Bank of New South Wales, as his country retreat. The school became a charitable trust in 1969 with a board of governors. In September 1986, the first girl was admitted and the school is now completely coeducational.
Nursery
In the spacious and airy nursery, our qualified and experienced staff provides a happy, nurturing environment where your son or daughter feels special and secure as they begin their school life.Children can attend for morning sessions or full days. Arrival is flexible, between 8.15am and 8.45am.There are two nursery classrooms. The youngest children are in Nursery 1 – a magical place that is transformed from farm to train to vets, depending upon the interests of the children attending that particular day. The numbers are small in these sessions ensuring a very high child/adult ratio. In this way we hope that your child’s first days away from their family are the happy beginnings of a wonderful learning journey. The children progress to Nursery 2 – a large, bright and airy room which sparkles with the work and personalities of the children who fill it every day. Double doors lead outside, where the children will find a large sand pit and climbing frame, a growing area, wendy houses and a multitude of outdoor toys and vehicles.
Reception to Year 2
The children enjoy learning with a topic based approach. They read and learn English and Maths daily and give the children access to many other parts of the curriculum in an enjoyable and memorable fashion. At Brambletye academic skills are developed through carefully planned schemes of work that follow and extend the National Curriculum, ensuring that children are not over burdened with constant testing. They seek to prepare children for the challenges of the Prep School and ultimately Common Entrance examinations. The Pre-Prep is an integral part of the Brambletye experience and as such the children have weekly contact with the Directors of Sport, Music and French, as well as benefitting from use of the theatre, swimming pool, sports hall, pitches and dining room.
Prep
They believe that a perfectly balanced combination of traditional values with modern sensibilities makes Brambletye a very special to be. It enables the pupils to thrive as they learn and play, the teachers to love their work as they encourage and support, and our parents to feel pride and peace of mind as they see their children flourish and explore their abilities. They cultivate the traditional values of good manners, respect and kindness to all those around us. This is an education which focuses on developing the whole person in a beautiful and historic setting. We have thought hard about how they prepare the children for a future which may look quite different from today’s world. We encourage and inspire our pupils to be emotionally intelligent and adaptable.
Creative Arts
At Brambletye, they believe deeply in the importance of developing children’s creativity. There are many unknowns about the world that they are preparing them for, however they do know they will need to be creative and resourceful. The art, music and drama departments are therefore Centres of Excellence giving the children what we believe is one of the most important lifeskills they can learn.
Sports
Team work, fitness, resilience, managing victory and disappointment: every child, from the most able of athletes to the those who just want to take part, will develop these skills from their sport at Brambletye. The opportunity for each pupil to play sport is essential in their development both socially and physically. At Brambletye, we hold the value of sport in such high esteem that the children do an hour of games each day as well as their curriculum PE lessons and a host of extra activities.
Digital Learning
Technology is a fundamental part of education at Brambletye. It enables us to increase engagement, enhance learning and encourage collaboration. We use a variety of platforms and resources to support the educational experience of the pupils, including the use of Chromebooks in lessons. Digital learning allows our pupils to access more information than is readily available in a standard classroom but also ensures that the information is best suited to their personal needs. The pupils are digital natives, having grown up in close contact with all manner of technology, and harnessing this knowledge to help every one of them learn at the best pace and path for them is the overarching philosophy behind our digital learning curriculum.

Scholarships & Bursaries
Brambletye, founded in 1919, receives no financial support from the government. To cover our costs and generate a surplus, all of which is invested back into the school, parents are charged a termly fee for the education provided. However, the school governors offer two Foundation Bursaries to help families that would be unable to send their children to Brambletye without assistance.
