Greenfields School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 2 to 19 (Gender - 2 to 19 )
Greenfields is set on the edge of the Royal Ashdown Forest in over 25 acres with truly beautiful scenery. Visitors regularly comment on the distinctive atmosphere here and the remarkable team spirit which exists between teachers and students.Every class at the School is small enough for the teachers to give attention to each student, monitor their progress carefully and not let them slip by the wayside. Indeed, we want every student to know that they are, in their estimation, making progress and improving. The progress and well-being of every student matter a great deal to us and this is reflected in the way that we speak and deal with them. Every year, new students arrive and immediately notice how they are greeted with warmth and friendship by staff and students alike. This is a school where Juniors and Seniors play football together, where students from Year 7 have no issue with chatting with students from Year 11 or the Sixth Form and where everyone knows everyone else by name.
Nursery & Reception
Greenfields’ Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision provides educational opportunities for each child to flourish as a unique individual and become confident and able in skills that underpin their whole education. They cover the seven areas of learning given in the EYFS Framework: Communication and Language; Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Literacy, Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. Children can join the Nursery from the age of three years to begin their educational journey. In this class, the nursery staff tends to concentrate on the child’s first steps in the EYFS curriculum concentrating on the first three prime areas – the development of communication and language; their physical development; and their personal, social, and emotional development through beginning relationships with other children and staff, and the many experiences they have as they learn.
Infants & Juniors
The Infants consists of Year 1 and Year 2. It is in these classes that the children build on the firm foundations laid down in the Reception class. It is from Year 1 that formal education begins and it is based upon Greenfields’s curriculum, the National Curriculum and that of Cambridge. The curriculum is used in such a way as to best fit the individual students and their needs. This level of individual care continues through to Advanced Level Studies in the Sixth Form.In these years, they are very careful in making sure that the children understand all the words that are being used and they are encouraged to ask what something means if they do not understand. Teachers avoid going on to another step before the children have understood the current one and they ensure that the children are given examples of the things that they are being taught. It is in Infants that reading and writing really start to take off and the children move rapidly through a series of carefully graded books and other material designed to enhance and stretch their skills. They address spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation, reading and writing, presentation, speaking, and listening. They are given many opportunities to write and take pride in presenting a neat piece of work. Maths is taught traditionally with emphasis on knowing and understanding basic arithmetic.
Seniors
The Lower Seniors consist of Years 7, 8 and 9. In these first three years of Senior School, they aim to give every student a rounded education in a wide range of subjects and to open their eyes to the possibilities that lie ahead of them in the world at large. As in the Infant and Junior School, education is based upon Greenfields’s curriculum, the National Curriculum and that of Cambridge. The Upper senior years cover a GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) qualification covering Years 10 and 11. These are some of the most important years as external examinations are taken through a range of UK exam boards. Students cover the content needed for that subject and complete mock examinations during Years 10 and 11 in preparation for what is expected in their final examinations. They also complete extensive revision in the months leading up to exams. Study Technology continues to be applied throughout the Senior years.
