Facilities

Nursery
The nursery features an all weather outdoor classroom, forest school, activity studio and sensory garden. The staff deliver well balanced, playcentred learning with a wide variety of practical activities and experimental learning. The daily routine offers a combination of child initiated, learner led and staff directed activities all of which help children to develop mentally and socially. During the ‘Educational hour’ children learn phonics, letter formation, French and ICT skills. In addition, weekly routines consist of gym, dance, singing and forest school which are all delivered by specialist teaching staff.

Pre Prep
Pre-Prep has been developed in conjunction with the parents who find managing childcare during school holidays challenging. When you join the Pre-Prep program, there is no gap in education or wrap-around care.Your child receives the excellent standard of Preparatory education you would expect and structured fun activities during the holidays.Pre-Prep at Castle House School provides 48 weeks a year education and care for children from Reception right up to the start of Year 3. Some parents find it challenging to manage childcare when full-time nursery ends and school begins.

Prep
English and Mathematics are central to the curriculum, but they do not allow either of these subjects to dictate the curriculum avoiding the trap some schools have fallen into when pursuing literacy and numeracy to the exclusion of almost everything else. The curriculum is broad, balanced and tailored to the ages and needs of the children. It is practical, tactile, visual and auditory, taking the best of the National Curriculum without being bound by red tape or inappropriate expectations.

Features

Things to note

Sport
The PE and Games programme teaches the children fitness and skills in many aspects of sport. The aim is to give them at least a taste of as many sports activities as possible, to prepare them for whatever they might take up at senior school. In a week most children will have two lessons of PE, one of Games and one of Swimming (in a heated indoor pool) with our own specialist teachers.

Music & Drama
The performing arts are given a high priority at Castle House School. Pupils develop self-confidence and collaborative skills by taking part in shows and plays. The young musicians are held in high regard by our local Senior Schools. All have the opportunity to learn to sing, to perform and entertain. Through music and acting the inherent confidence which a child possesses is brought to the fore, and whether reading aloud in assembly, playing an instrument in a recital or performing a complex play our children are encouraged to develop their talents, take these forwards to examination, and most importantly stand on a stage as if it was just another day at school.

Outdoor Learning
Nettles sting, the stream is cold in winter and leaves on the ground can be slippery! Forest School is an integral part of the Outdoor Learning where children experience a traditional, natural, hands-on learning environment where the senses are crucial to understanding. All children receive at least one weekly timetabled lesson in Forest School and often more to support their topic, maths and science studies but sometimes they just make a lot of mess and a lot of noise and have a lot of fun!
