2-13 Years

Description

Cheam School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 2 to 13 (Gender - 2 to 13 )

Cheam is a very special place offering the brightest of learning environments. It is the perfect place to grow - they know that the early years of a child’s life are the very best time to prepare the ground for their adulthood, and the focus at Cheam is on providing the most compelling setting for every child to thrive. There is a ‘feeling’ about the school that cannot be engineered. It is an organic manifestation of an educational environment where opportunity is provided alongside reassurance, where independence co-exists with support, and where kindness is instilled alongside resilience. It is this ethos that ensures the Cheam leavers, year on year, take happiness, confidence and emotional intelligence with them on to pastures new. Cheam has long standing relationships with some of the very best day and boarding schools in the country, and we pride ourselves on guiding every child in the care to exactly the right next step. They help parents manage applications, pre-tests and the successful transition of their children at 13, delivering outstanding exam results and winning a wide range of scholarships along the way.

Facilities

Pre Prep
In Years 1 and 2 the learning is divided into subjects; Literacy, maths and French lessons are primarily classroom based whist lessons in Science, Art, RE, Music, Computing, PE and Topic, flexibly incorporate both the outdoor and indoor classrooms. They organise the timetable to ensure that the core subjects of literacy and maths are taught in the mornings, when the children are fresh and eager to learn, and that the afternoons are given to the outdoor activities such as games and woodland learning and more creative subjects such as music, drama and art.Children develop their own learning skills and appropriate assessment gives the teachers the information to help develop each child individually. Using the information that they retrieve from both standardised and teacher assessment they differentiate lessons in maths and literacy to ensure that each child is challenged, supported and in a position to reach their potential.

Prep
The Prep section of the school comprises Years 3 - 8 and currently has 304 pupils. The pupils are divided into four Divisions. These are named after four of the former headmasters of the school, namely Aldrich, Beck, Gilpin and Tabor, and there is fierce competition between them. The pupils are taught in small classes, with the majority of the subjects being taught by subject specialists. The school day is extremely busy and rewarding and there is plenty to keep the pupils occupied.

Things to note

Sports and Games
In PE and games lessons they cover a variety of skills from gymnastics and dance to sports such as football and netball. It is important that the children learn both indoors and outdoors and through our sports and activity programme they aim to teach both physical skills to keep the bodies healthy and life skills such as teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Activities & After-School Club
The school day runs from 8am until 5:55pm – with lots to keep even the most active child occupied in the hours in between! Children can be dropped off at any time between 8 and 8:30am and they can be collected from 3:30pm. We run a variety of clubs for children from Reception to Year 2 from 3:30 to 4:40pm and in these clubs they aim to introduce the children to different sports and interests. Whilst the club choices often vary according to the time of year, children can enjoy choosing from Football, Tag Rugby, Golf, Tennis, Ballet and Gymnastics as well as Sketching, Gardening, Board Games and Maths. Children in Reception are also invited to a Fun with Food club!

Extra Curricular
It is said that 'a busy child is a happy child' and the Cheam day is jam packed full with action! There are numerous opportunities for the children to develop their own individual skills and interests in a wealth of extra-curricular activities. Every Thursday in the winter terms the children have 'Activities', an afternoon when they can pursue their hobbies in a timetabled and supervised environment. The list of extra-curricular options is an exhaustive one and there is something for everybody at Cheam.
