Facilities

Curriculum
They foster a curiosity and love of learning in children. Maria Montessori said ‘The goal of early education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn’, and this is what they do. They follow the Montessori curriculum, which covers all aspects of the Early Years Foundation stage (birth to five years) and the National Curriculum (six to eleven years) in the Montessori way: The Children’s House curriculum, Grantham Farm curriculum. Research has proven time and again, that children have the best possible start with the Montessori approach.
In line with how a child’s brain develops, the Montessori approach follows a natural progression from ‘the known to the unknown’ and from ‘simple to complex’, ‘concrete to abstract’. This approach allows each child to develop in their own time, building a solid foundation upon which to build future learning, thus engendering a love of learning and a positive self-image.

Features

Things to note

Outdoor learning
The outdoor environment offers the children acres of green space in which to explore, imagine, run and learn. With natural wood and farmland in the grounds, the children have hands on experience with plants and wildlife. The children are delighted by the tadpoles each year and love to see the chickens roaming the gardens.

Children House
The Children’s House is calm. It is an accessible room in which children self-resource their ‘work’ activity, develop the ability to concentrate, and once completed return their activity to the shelves ready for the next child to use.Children can work individually, or in groups, with hands-on activities which are made from natural materials, and designed to support each child’s physical, social and intellectual growth.

The Grantham Farm experience
Children learn in a mixed-age class that supports the interests of each child as an individual. Children are not separated into groups according to ability, as in some traditional methods, but are encouraged to work independently or in groups. This way of teaching children develops an atmosphere of equality and working together; self-confidence grows as a product of the ethos.
