Claremont School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 1 to 19 (Gender - 1 to 19 )
Claremont is a wonderful school. Set across two sites of extraordinary beauty, it distinguishes itself in this area of East Sussex as a co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 1 to 18 years. Established in 1925, The Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School is set on an 125 acre estate in St Leonards and educates over 400 students. In 2011, Claremont Senior School was founded in the historic village of Bodiam. Starting with 40 students in 2011, the Senior School is now a well-established centre of learning with over 310 pupils today, a vibrant Sixth Form and two newly refurbished boarding houses. Having been a proprietorial school for years, in February 2018, Claremont School became a member of the International Schools Partnership (ISP) and the flagship British school in a portfolio of 39 schools around the world. Our partnership with ISP has brought with it renewed investment and the opportunity to realise our ambitions to further develop our extensive grounds and already impressive facilities at both school sites.
Nursery
The very youngest members of the Claremont family are warmly welcomed into our delightful Nursery School from one year old. Set within the magnificent 125 acres of Claremont’s Preparatory School site, our large and self-contained Nursery School provides a safe, secure and happy environment for little children to learn and grow. The Nursery is housed in a beautiful, period coach house conversion which has been carefully divided into several distinct classrooms, all designed and well equipped for a specific developmental age to ensure children can flourish in an age-appropriate environment. Beyond the nursery’s own dedicated play areas and gardens, adventures are to be had in the fresh air exploring Claremont’s idyllic open fields, ancient woodland, streams and formal gardens.
Pre-Prep and Early Years (4-7 years)
When children join the Pre-Prep, they quickly become part of the Claremont family and start out an exciting, adventure-filled journey with learning opportunities around every corner. The teachers are extremely knowledgeable about how young children learn, and by having the time and space to really understand what makes each child tick, they are able to individualise the learning and play to each child’s strengths, interests and motivations. This creates a ‘home from home’ environment where children are able to stretch their legs and imaginations as they begin to make sense of the fascinating world around them. The result of all of this is a happy, enthusiastic and vibrant community: the perfect ingredients for growth and development.
Prep (Years 3-8)
Claremont Prep School is a truly magical place to learn and grow. They have created an environment where children feel happy, secure and valued and where they are able to motivate and guide our children to succeed and achieve in many areas of school life. Children are encouraged to use their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and, as a result, develop high levels of confidence and self-esteem. School life centres on a broad and balanced curriculum, designed and developed by a large, well-qualified teaching staff with the aim of teaching a breadth of skills which will equip the pupils for senior school and life beyond.
Senior School (Years 9-11)
Being a teenager in the 21st Century presents both extraordinary opportunities and hidden challenges. Never has there been a greater array of career paths, university courses and avenues to explore as the forces of technological change transform our world. Simultaneously these very same changes throw up unexpected consequences and pitfalls. Nothing is sacred as the political, economic and social certainties of previous generations have, one by one, been cast aside.
Sixth Form
The Claremont Sixth Form experience is designed with this knowledge at its very heart. The aim is to prepare young men and women, both inside and outside the classroom so that they are equipped with the right balance of knowledge and skills to not only make good decisions about their futures, but to be the masters of their own destiny when priorities and interests evolve or even change completely. The study programmes are tailored to the individual, academically rigorous, and supported by the widest possible range of ‘hands-on’ learning experiences. This means that when Sixth Form students leave Claremont, they take with them a portfolio of evidence not only charting their academic attainment, but also evidencing the skills they have developed, experiences they have had and all round capabilities as a student, employee and citizen.
Clubs and the Extended Day
The fun doesn’t have to stop after the main school day finishes. The after-school Club programme enables children to explore their interests and passions more fully and for parents who work, the extension to the day certainly helps make life easier by eliminating the often tricky issue of organising childcare. The ‘Great Outdoors’ is regarded as a ‘Club Classic’ and is always very well-attended (any excuse to get back out into the woods!), as is Horse Riding, Football, Gymnastics and Kickboxing. Quieter pursuits such as Yoga and Wellbeing and Art and Crafts Club balance out the active, with a ‘late stay’ option available for those children who like to decide for themselves how they want to pass the time before pick-up.
Enrichment and Extra Curricular Activities
The release of the termly enrichment and after-school club programme is always eagerly anticipated by pupils and parents alike. Family favourites include Zoology Club, where children have the opportunity to handle and learn about the resident corn snake, water dragon, gecko and axolotl to name but a few; Chess Club, where many a hard fought game is won and lost each week and our Newspaper Club which is run by a bestselling author, ghostwriter and former national journalist. There are numerous Sports Clubs on offer ranging from football, horse riding and cricket to the extremes of Kickboxing and Yoga and Wellbeing. Other activities include Tap and Modern, Spanish and Latin clubs, Musical Theatre, Needlework, Art and the ever popular Coding Club with its loyal following of tomorrow’s technological whizzes.
Co-Curricular Programme
They place students at the heart of their own learning, tailoring study paths to develop knowledge, skills and experiences that play to students’ strengths, interests and learning styles. We want to explore potential talent and new interests so students can try new things as well as becoming masters at the skills they love. The aim is to make students independent learners, confident in their skills and abilities and not afraid to try new things. The broad and diverse co-curricular programme is designed to enrich the student experience, developing skills-based learning across these eight areas.
