Facilities

Nursery
Colchester High School’s Private Nursery is the perfect place for your child to start their educational journey. The experienced staff and fantastic facilities provide the ideal environment to introduce your child to structured, play based learning.Take a closer look and you will see the attention paid to each individual child by our experienced and qualified Nursery practitioners. You will see how we encourage and nurture their personal interests, how they set them specific goals, and how those goals are so closely monitored that they can be updated by the hour.If you watch for a little longer, you’ll also notice a structure to the way we engage with the children – a structure that allows us to combine formal learning in phonics and maths with more free-flowing play sessions. And you will also see specialist teachers coming in from later stages of the school to introduce the boys and girls to subjects such as PE, ICT, music, drama and French.

Lower School
Every year it’s lovely to watch how quickly our new boys and girls settle in and how happily they immerse themselves in the school community. As they progress through the school, it is wonderful to see them developing in confidence, exploring their talents and engaging with their learning. It is notable that when children join the school, they settle in swiftly and soon become involved in the whole school community in a variety of ways.  There are opportunities for the children to work within their peer group but also to work with different age groups within the Lower and Senior School, which makes the transitions between key stages so much smoother and creates a strong sense of community, where the children feel truly at home.

Senior School
They are traditional in the sense that we teach a broad curriculum, set high standards and expect our pupils to conduct themselves with good manners, discipline and a community spirit. They are forward-thinking in the sense that we have small classes taught by subject-specialists, provide a wide-ranging enrichment programme, and treat every pupil as an individual. That final point is key. We get to know our pupils extremely well, identifying and nurturing their personal talents, setting specific targets and helping them to meet and exceed them. It’s an approach that works, with our boys and girls achieving strong GCSE results year after year.Of course, none of this success could be achieved if we didn’t look after the wider needs of our children.  As a parent myself, they understand the value of studying in a happy atmosphere, where hard work is encouraged, people look out for you, and you have an outlet for all your talents – sporting, artistic, musical and social.
