Facilities

Nursery
Copthorne’s nursery is where your child will learn to learn as well as promoting imagination, confidence and happiness. And as a parent of a two to four year olds you will appreciate just how much learning there is to do! Amid the sea of waterproofs and wellington boots you will find children using their imaginations, being absorbed by new experiences and generally having fun. These are the foundations on which Copthorne Prep has been built and they prepare children well for the pre-prep years.

Reception, year 1 and year 2
This is a very formative period for your child and as a parent of a four to seven year olds you’ll appreciate how many different things your child can be busy with! Here, in small class groups, we offer a broad and exciting curriculum for the liveliest and most enquiring minds.  We place great emphasis on learning to read and thinking mathematically and scientifically – language, maths and science are core subjects.  Your child will also be introduced to history, geography, religious education, French, art and crafts, information technology, music and physical education.

Prep
The development of academic rigour through monitoring and assessment, The prep school runs from years 3 to 8 (children aged from 7-13). Over these six years you will see your child gradually develop their confidence, their passion for learning and their awareness of their responsibility as a global citizen. Your child will be challenged to reach their full potential and, as a result, will be well prepared for their progression to the senior school of their choice.

Features

Things to note

Extra curricular
They are proud of the huge range of extra curricular activities that are available. There are some clubs that run at different times after supper and will vary depending on the time of year. Swimming, forest activities, climbing, fencing, science, fitness, cricket, ICT, netball, art and comics are just a few of the activities on offer. Generally the activities last 40 minutes from 4.40pm – 5.20pm at which time, they can join our other children for supper in the dining room. Generally, the activities are included in the school fees. There are however exceptions which are listed on the termly activity sheet.

School trips
Learning throughout the school is enhanced by the provision of regular school trips. Many areas of the curriculum are made more memorable and can be brought to life by visiting the actual site of a battle, seeing the remains of life from long ago or by being part of a drama production. The opportunities are endless and so we ensure our day trips are carefully planned, have a specific learning outcome in mind, are shared amongst all of the age groups and are spread out throughout the year so that pupils always have something to look forward to.
