Atelier21 Future School is Independent Secondary school in Not recorded for kids aged 4 to 14 (Gender - 4 to 14 )
The school enables high levels of self directed learning, facilitates student agency and fosters innovation, curiosity and creativity which help young people compete, contribute and thrive in the ever-changing modern world. The school is the UK’s first Reggio Emilia inspired, enquiry-based learning, Future School for 0-16 years. They have chosen to deliver the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the senior school as a world leading recognised exam system which fits the school ethos and approach to learning. This ensures our pupils build 21st Century skills, a broader range of knowledge and interests and the dispositions that young people need to compete and thrive – on top of rocking exam results! The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for pupils between the ages of 11 and 16. It is taught in 108 countries around the world and is accredited by Ofqual as having the same status as GCSEs and respected by universities in the UK and abroad.
Mastery Workshops
A twist on traditional lessons, our mastery workshops are a blend of direct teaching of new concepts, with time set aside for self-selection of carefully prepared resources and challenges for pupils to self-manage their progress in the fields of learning below. The fields of learning contain information on how pupils learn knowledge in each subject, both discreetly and through project-based learning.
Big Studies
Big Studies are cross-curricular projects carried out in class groups linking to an overarching theme for the whole school to respond to for a half a term. This is the way our students learn about history, geography, religious studies, politics, and current affairs (and other things) through relevant contexts that are meaningful to them as they are about worldwide challenges affecting our earth, society past, present and future.
Wild Fridays
The most popular of the school days at Atelier 21 is WILD Friday! The one day a week where children and adults go out into wild spaces for most of the day for outdoor learning and exploration. As well as contextualising maths, English, geography, history, drama, music and science in the forest or on the beach we also have purposeful ‘Adventure Days’ – from rock climbing to Forest School, crabbing to wild swimming, raft building, kayaking, surfing and lots more. These days are about pushing ourselves, working as a team and having new experiences together.
School Bussiness
They think that in today’s world young people need to develop financial literacy and an entrepreneurial spirit to thrive. Entrepreneurs know how to navigate challenges through an ever-changing environment, they are resourceful, adaptable and they are not afraid to take measured risks in life.It has never been more important to ensure the children understand how to develop multiple revenue streams (even if they don’t want to run a business), and how they can build wealth for themselves and do good things with it as adults.
Democratic School Circles
In the school children and teenagers are accorded rights and responsibilities of democratic citizenship; students and teachers vote at School Circle meetings on the rules that affect them, and serve on different circle groups to make decisions on various aspects of the running of Atelier 21. These decisions range from which sports to put on the curriculum next term, to which new behaviour rules they need as a community, to which student enterprise ideas will be granted loans from the school bank for example. What better training than this to prepare students for democratic citizenship? When rules are broken, misdemeanours are heard at the school circle meeting and appropriate sanctions are decided on and given out by the group of students and teachers in that circle. Any serious misdemeanours or acts of intolerable behaviour will be dealt with by the Head of School.
Wellbeing at Atelier 21
At Atelier 21, they recognise that having positive mental health is a driving force towards a successful experience both in school and beyond. Drawing upon the Big 6 Learnable Intelligences[1] we aim to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for the whole school community (children, staff, parents and carers), and recognise how important mental health and emotional wellbeing is to the lives in just the same way as physical health. They recognise that children’s mental health is a crucial factor in their overall wellbeing and can affect their learning and achievement. All children go through ups and downs during their school career and some face significant life events
