Farleigh School

Description

The Secret Garden is Independent Secondary school in Not recorded for kids aged 7 to 14 (Gender - 7 to 14 )

Farleigh is a wonderful place in which to spend your childhood. It is set in the Test Valley of Hampshire in 70 acres of parkland and woodland where children can be 'free range' in safety - and this only an hour from London. The Georgian house, which is the centre of the school, provides a welcoming home for over 460 boys and girls aged 3 to 13. This is particularly important for our 120 boarders and 20 resident staff.Attentive pastoral care is one of the particular strengths and they go to great lengths to ensure the fulfilment of all the pupils. They experience a stimulating curriculum complemented by the opportunities for games and sport as well as extensive music, art and drama. These are such important years as they lay foundations for up to ten years before the children go on to senior schools.

Facilities

PRE-PREP & KINDERGARTEN
Farleigh Pre-Prep, which includes the Kindergarten, Reception and Years 1 and 2, is headed by Mrs Sue Wilton, who joined the Pre-Prep as Head in September 2019, having taught in the Prep since 2014 as a Key Stage 2 Teacher, Exam Officer and Assessment Co-ordinator.The Pre-Prep is housed in a purpose built, modern, light and spacious building with two classes per year group, its own activity hall and library. The Kindergarten has its own secure playground with treehouse, and the Pre-Prep's playground includes a large outdoor stage with seating, a multi-use games area, sensory planting, an enclosed sand pit and ‘water wall’. The Pre-Prep children benefit from the school’s excellent facilities such as the sports AstroTurf, the cookery room, the on-site forest school, structured swimming lessons and yoga as part of their school day.

PREP
Each year they send pupils to leading senior schools via Pre-Assessment, Common Entrance and 13+ scholarships. They aim high and seek to foster curiosity, and a real enjoyment of life-long learning. They also educate the pupils for the modern world, equipping them with the soft skills they will need for the future, such as collaboration and teamwork. Examples of how soft skills are woven into the curriculum include: group and pair work, class and year group trips and the Ambassador Programme (in Years 7 and 8). The multi-sensory/active learning approach encompasses every type of learner: visual, kinaesthetic and auditory; and exciting teaching methods ensure children are encouraged to be active participants, rather than passive listeners.
