Gatehouse is an independent school for girls and boys aged 3 to 11 in East London, near Victoria Park. Accommodated in a recently renovated Victorian building with modern extensions and set in landscaped grounds which include climbing frames and an Astroturf sports court. The site is alongside Regent’s Canal and the many acres of Victoria Park.At Gatehouse they aim to provide children with a caring and supportive learning environment, developing and encouraging each child’s abilities and helping them to build an excellent foundation for life and work. Classes are non-streamed, and of mixed ability throughout all age ranges.From the nursery and onwards, children are subject taught by highly qualified specialist staff as well as having their own dedicated form teacher.
THE NURSERY CURRICULUM
Throughout their time in Nursery, children’s progress will be monitored across the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, ensuring that each child is able to:Enjoy themselves during his/her time in the Nursery. LOWER JUNIORS
Following Nursery, the next big step your children make at Gatehouse School is into our Lower Junior classes. This transition from Nursery to the Lower Juniors is made smooth by the attendance of regular assemblies, playtimes and Foundation Stage meetings, which enable the Nursery children to become very familiar with the Reception setting, routines and staff.Here at Gatehouse School the Lower Junior pupils relish in their growing capabilities, throwing themselves in to all that Gatehouse has to offer, both inside and outside the classroom.
UPPER JUNIOR
At Gatehouse, children from Year 3 to Year 6 are known as Upper Juniors. Here you will find all the information you need to know about life in Upper Juniors in Gatehouse.
LIBRARY
The library at Gatehouse is a wonderful open plan space, bright and inviting, situated at the reception area of the school. They provide an extensive and ever growing catalogue of books and resources for all students and teachers and are committed to finding the right book for each child, whatever their interest, ability or request. Book lists are available for each year group and are continuously updated to reflect the wealth of children’s literature available.
BREAKFAST CLUB – YEAR 1 TO YEAR 6 ONLY
Breakfast Club is available for children in Year 1 to Year 6. Breakfast Club runs from 7.30 am to 8.30 am and breakfast is included. Children may attend regularly or whenever it is required. AFTER SCHOOL CLUB (HOMEWORK CLUB)
After School Club runs from 3.30 pm to 5.30pm each day. The After School Club is an opportunity for children who are being picked up later to complete their evening homework before returning home. Children may attend regularly or whenever it is required. AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY CLUBS
They offer a great selection of clubs and activities at Gatehouse School and children from Reception to Year 6 can sign up to a variety of clubs during the year. These take place at the end of the school day. The activities include: tennis, dance, football, dodgeball, weaving, yoga, trampoline, knitting, photography, languages, reading, Mathletics, art and craft, puppets, book making, creative clay, art drawing, construction.
SPORTS
Here at Gatehouse School they aim for excellence in both performance and attitude by providing first class lessons and coaching with ample opportunities to train and compete. We cater for all pupils and every pupil is encouraged to enjoy an interest in individual or team games whilst developing a healthy attitude to fitness and exercise.
