Henley-in-Arden Montessori Primary School is Independent Primary school in Warwickshire for kids aged 4 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )
As an accredited Montessori school and nursery, they offer high quality education and care for children from 2 to 11 years. They implement the philosophy, practices and curriculum of Maria Montessori and her method of education because we believe the difference they make lasts a lifetime, helping children develop into well-rounded individuals. The Montessori approach is holistic and aims to develop the whole child. Fundamental to the approach is the belief that a child’s early years from birth to six (nursery through to Reception) is the period when they have the greatest capacity to learn. Between the ages of six and twelve is the second phase of the Montessori approach and this experience will shape not only their knowledge and skills, but also their attitude about learning for the rest of their lives.
Nursery
You will find that no two Montessori nurseries look exactly the same. At Merrydays we respond to the needs of the individual child and to the society and culture they are part of. The teachers also bring their own special skills and interests into the learning environment. Here the child’s freedom, dignity and independence is of paramount importance. The classroom environment is orderly, clean and inviting, with all activities displayed within reach of the children. Some children work in small groups, with a teacher, but the majority work alone following their own interests. The Montessori classroom provides learning opportunities for mixed age groups of children, from the age of two to the age of 5. This vertical grouping is essential as it promotes socialisation. The Montessori approach to education shares the underlying principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Primary
In a Montessori primary classroom, the child’s own questions provide the basis for exploration of the world. Because the questions are personal to each child, they are able to connect with knowledge, the teacher providing the subject matter to aid the child in his personal quest. The primary child wants to know everything about his world and the universe. He has a natural tendency to explore the world using the sciences, the arts and social studies. This does not mean that the basics of reading, writing and mathematics will be ignored. During his pre-school year’s, he has acquired a measure of language, literacy of letters, numbers and writing skills. In the primary school, these basic skills are polished to become tools to use in his search for knowledge.
Forest School
Forest School has been an integral part of education in Denmark since the 1980’s. The philosophy was based upon a desire to provide children with an education which encouraged appreciation of the wide, natural world and which would encourage responsibility for nature conservation in later life. This philosophy was adapted by Bridgewater College, UK and they began their Forest School in 1995.Merrydays and Henley in Arden Montessori has three fully qualified Forest School leaders and use the Forest School philosophy to complement our Montessori philosophy: child centred environment, use real tools that work, educate the senses, competence and responsibility, large blocks of open ended time and the observation of children.
Selection Criteria: Selective
Nursery Children are admitted into the Nursery in the term that they turn 2 years old. There is no necessity for them to be potty trained. Assessing children at this age is difficult, so as such, there is no academic selection process, but children are encouraged to attend settling in sessions in the Nursery prior to their start date.Children can start with a minimum of 2 morning sessions per week. These can be extended at the beginning of each term when the child is ready to cope with a longer day. A maximum of 10 sessions (full time) per week is offered. Parents may change their requirements for morning/afternoon sessions in the Nursery on a termly basis.
