PREP SCHOOL
Kingswood Prep School (KPS) is situated on a magnificent 100-acre site in Lansdown, Bath, a short distance from Kingswood Senior School. It very much embodies a countryside atmosphere, with open fields and plenty of space for the children to explore. However, it is only a short walk from the stunning city centre and all the amenities on offer.A family-friendly day and boarding school, Kingswood balances academic rigour and real objectives for all pupils with the outstanding pastoral care for which Kingswood is known. Many parents comment on the School’s kind and nurturing environment, the absence of pretension and how happy their children are to attend.
LOWER SCHOOL - YEARS 7-8
The Lower School, for Years 7 and 8 is based in Westwood House, the home-away-from-home for the first two years of pupils’ time at Kingswood. With some 160 day pupils and 40 boarders, the House is always busy and full of life but is also something of a “soft landing” into life at Senior School. Head of Lower School, Mr Steve Pentreath, and Assistant Head of Lower School, Mrs Nic Curtis, lead the Lower School, ensuring that each pupil can thrive throughout the different areas of school life. A key part of their responsibility is to help pupils transition from their previous schools, whether that be Kingswood Prep or one of the many local and further afield schools that pupils join us from.
MIDDLE SCHOOL - YEARS 9-11
The Middle School at Kingswood begins in Year 9 and finishes in Year 11. Pupils leave Westwood at the end of Year 8 and join the Senior Houses, in which they will spend the rest of their Kingswood careers. Pupils are assigned their Senior House with great care, ensuring that pupils experience both the comfort of close friendships and the challenge of integrating into a new House community. Pupils at Kingswood soon develop great affinity with their House and often become deeply loyal to their own House family. Each pupil is assigned a specialist Middle School tutor who will take them through to the end of Year 11.Academically, pupils' time at the Middle School is a period of great change. Beginning in Year 9, pupils exercise more choice over their curriculum, narrowing their options as they approach GCSE study. By the time they join Year 10, pupils will have chosen their GCSE options and will begin two years’ worth of study towards nine or ten GCSE qualifications.
CO-CURRICULAR
Kingswood School provides an extensive range of excellent co-curricular activities. There are over 100 activities each term. The provision for sport, music and drama is outstanding and many pupils participate in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and outdoor pursuits. The School also hosts the annual Bath Schools Model United Nations conference. All students are encouraged to participate in a wide a range of co-curricular activities to discover new talents, improve existing skills, work as part of a team and find activities and hobbies that they enjoy which will take them past school and often become lifelong interests. In addition, academic societies, departmental trips and activities that complement the curriculum help students demonstrate a passion for their subjects outside the classroom, which is invaluable for students completing university applications.
