Oldfield School is a State Secondary School for kids aged 11 to 18 (Gender - Mixed)
Oldfield School has an excellent reputation for academic achievement and for the high quality of the pastoral support. This is a high achieving comprehensive school with an inclusive ethos which allows students of all abilities, backgrounds and aptitudes to achieve or exceed their potential. The core purpose is to provide a challenging and supportive environment for the children in the care and to ensure that they are fully prepared for their future lives and I believe that they do this very well. They have very high expectations of our students with regards to their learning, behaviour and aspirations. This is evident in their conduct around the school, attitude to learning, examination results and the pride that they show in wearing their uniform. They also strive to provide a first class experience outside of the classroom. There is a wide and varied range of enrichment and extracurricular opportunities and these contribute as much to the development and success of the students as their academic experiences. A successful school has the well-being of its students at the heart of what it does and this is why Oldfield is such a successful school.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum for Key Stage 3 follows the National Curriculum. Most students study two languages (Spanish and French) throughout Key Stage 3. A wide range of courses additional to the core subjects are offered at Key Stage 4. Students are encouraged to study humanities and languages and the great majority do so. Almost all Key Stage 4 examination entries are in GCSEs, Year 10 and 11 students typically study 9 GCSEs although some study up to 11 GCSEs. There is setting in ability groups in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 where appropriate. In Key Stage 3 students are set by ability in mathematics, MFL and science from Year 8 onwards using prior assessment data from KS2 SATs and internal assessments. In Key Stage 4 setting by ability is in place in English, mathematics and science.
