Kitebrook Preparatory School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 13 (Gender - 3 to 13 )
Set in the idyllic Cotswolds, Kitebrook provides an outstanding all-round education where children are allowed to develop at their own pace in a happy and supportive environment that inspires self-confidence and a sense of independence. It is a great privilege to lead this unique and exceptional school, and they would love to speak to you about welcoming your child into the extended family. They want all the children to feel at home here, with the freedom to roam around the grounds in their free time. Kitebrook boys and girls make dens, climb trees and enjoy being children! High academic standards, a varied curriculum, specialist teaching and a wonderful environment - all in all, an ‘Enid Blyton’ existence with ambition! We passionately believe that a child’s school days should be some of the happiest of their lives.
Early Years
The youngest children, aged three to five years, start their educational journey in The Cottage for Preschool and Reception class. The Cottage has its own garden which allows for free flow between indoor and outdoor learning. The children all take part in weekly Outdoor Education sessions where they have the opportunity to learn important life skills as well as more about the natural environment. During each session the children are encouraged to collaborate, take risks and use their own initiative to solve problems. In our preschool, children aged three to four years are provided with a stimulating, individual and exciting play-based curriculum. With a balance of child and teacher initiated activities the learning environment is designed to encourage and support the children, which includes specialist class teaching for Music and PE.
Lower School
As the pupils progress through the Lower School (Years 1 - 4), they become increasingly independent individuals who are able to take responsibility for their own learning and are ready to seize challenges. They recognise that children develop at their own pace and that each child is completely unique. Through the small class sizes, differentiated teaching and learning opportunities, highly trained support staff and close collaboration with parents, they can truly focus upon each child’s needs. They place a strong emphasis upon securing children’s basic skills in reading, writing and arithmetic, to equip them with the necessary expertise to explore our broad and varied curriculum and the wider world. The pupils are not only proud of their achievements but of all the small steps, breakthroughs, setbacks and hurdles overcome that help them to get there no matter what. Being kind, caring and respectful is also integral to the Kitebrook Code of Conduct, which they hold in high regard and expect pupils to follow at all times.
Upper School
Embarking on an Upper School education is an exciting time for our pupils. Specialist subject teaching, more independence, opportunities to develop intellectually, the chance to become part of the Pupil Leadership Team, and more responsibility are a small sample of the areas to enjoy.Upper School at Kitebrook comprises Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 and pupils move away from being taught predominantly by their class teacher, and take lessons with subject specialists (for example Science, Geography and Outdoor Education). Small class sizes allow focused attention to ensure that every child becomes a confident learner both inside and outside the classroom.
Excursions
School trips are an important and effective means of motivating pupils; engaging them in active learning experiences. Excursions are carefully planned within our broad and varied curriculum, allowing pupils to enhance their knowledge by placing classroom learning in context. Through travel, both locally and beyond, our trips aim to help our children develop a wide range of new skills.
Clubs and Societies
The Activities and Clubs programme is aimed at developing the children's confidence, independence and breadth of interest, both as individuals and within teams. There are a wide-range of extracurricular societies available.
Sport
Sport is a vital part of life at the school. Children participate in a variety of team sports as part of the curriculum, including rugby, hockey, netball, football, rounders, cricket, lacrosse, cross country, athletics, swimming, tennis, triathlon, golf and our very own ‘Kiteball’.All children from Reception to Year 6 swim once a week. Sporting fixtures from Year 3 upwards take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, these are against other preparatory schools encouraging confidence, self-esteem, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
