Latymer Upper School and Latymer Prep School is a co-educational public school in Hammersmith, London, for kids aged 7 to 19.

Facilities

  • There are a number of dedicated classrooms across the site for computing, music, art, design and cookery.
  • A 200-seat theatre, a dance and drama space, a performing arts building which has an outstanding recital hall where the children perform regularly. The last is the most recent addition includes a six-lane swimming pool, a state-of-the-art sports hall, fitness suites and a climbing wall.

Things to note

  • Sports plays a major part in both the curricular and co-curricular life of the students.  
  • With over 800 pupils taking individual lessons in their instrument of choice, music is integral to school life with all students encouraged to take part in concerts and shows either as performers or as an enthusiastic audience.
  • Latymer Upper School has a reputation for staging outstanding theatre productions.
  • The Art department is at the very heart of the School’s site, with a three storey gallery and expansive double height studio linked to four further studios within the Latymer Arts Centre.
  • There is a fantastic choice of around 150 clubs and societies for pupils to join and they are very much integral to the rounded Latymer Upper School education. From chess to dance,  aerospace to Japanese puzzles, life-drawing to water polo, each student is encouraged to try new activities.
  • School trips take place throughout the year, both as part of the curriculum and extra-curricular. These can be local to London or further afield. Most trips are day trips with a number of evening theatre and musical trips also on offer. There are also longer language exchanges, offering opportunities for development of both language skills and cultural enrichment.

Scholarships

At Latymer Upper School they offer a number of scholarships based on excellence in a particular area of study. There are scholarships for applicants who stand out academically, as well as awards for Music, Drama, Sport and Art. 

Academic scholarships: Academic scholarships are offered at 11+. These normally consist of a one-off payment of £1,000 at the time of entry. At the Head’s discretion, a larger financial element may be awarded. No separate application is required for a scholarship and there is no separate scholarship examination or interview.

Music scholarships: A number of Music scholarships are available every year at 11+ and 16+. Candidates for Music scholarships must first meet the academic requirements for entry to the School. Music scholarships are awarded strictly on ability and potential as tested at audition by the Director of Music. All Music scholarships carry free tuition on two instruments. The majority of Music scholarships consist of a fee reduction of not more than 20%, although one Music scholarship of up to 40% is available at 11+ entry. 

Drama, Art and Sport scholarships:  Scholarships in Drama, Art and Sport are offered at 16+ only.
