Lodge Farm Education

Lodge Farm Broughton Astley LE9 6RB
11-17 Years

Description

Lodge Farm is a small alternative educational provision based on an 8-acre site. This therapeutic setting offers space and privacy for students with additional needs to grow and mature.

Facilities

  • Though they have been in operation since 2012 as part of a larger group of SEMH schools. They operate as a traditional farm which includes horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, rabbits, reptiles, cats, dogs, and a pig…who thinks he is a dog! Other animals on site are raised and put to market.
  • Lodge Farm offers a natural mix of indoor and outdoor learning on a daily basis. With such a small close-knit team, they get to know students, their families and their unique home-lives as standard. This allows to offer an individualised programme of learning for each student to help them succeed, whilst they are at the farm and beyond.
  • They aim for young people to leave as better people, more prepared for the world that awaits them. As well as advances academically, students will have gained skills that will secure their future, whatever that may be. They will have a better understanding of how they can take control of their social and economic well-being.

Admission Details

Lodge Farm receives referrals for a placement from nearby Local Authorities. They carefully consider all referrals.  If they have a place available, students are admitted should we feel that they are able to take full advantage of the learning opportunities offered. They are guided by the recommendations on a young person’s statement of special needs. If they believe the young person would benefit from a place at Lodge Farm, a member of staff will usually visit them in their home and/or in their existing educational placement. Following this visit, an opportunity is provided for the young person and their parents/carers to visit the Farm, in order for them to decide whether they feel that they would like to consider attending the Farm should they be offered a place. Potential students are accepted on a ‘provisional’ basis for a ‘taster’ period. The length of this ‘taster’ period may vary from one young person to another, but is often approximately 2 weeks. They ensure that staff have sufficient time and opportunities to undertake further on-site assessments when a young person is experiencing transitional difficulties.
