Early Years
At Long Close school, the youngest learners start at two years old. Little Long Close learners are very important members of the school community and benefit from being immersed in the enriching environment. They learn through a wide variety of play and creative activities. They are encouraged to develop self-assurance, independence and effective social skills. They offer a seamless transition through Nursery to Reception and upwards in a stimulating environment to start the foundations of learning within The Little Long Close Early Years building. Prep School
Here at Long Close Prep School, they pride themselves on being a leading provider of academic excellence for children aged 4 -11 years old. The focus on fostering a challenging, vibrant and enjoyable educational experience is what sets us apart and ensures that pupils develop a genuine love of learning. The status as a Read Write Inc. model school highlights the excellence in phonics teaching, topic-based learning develops children’s curiosity about the world and specialist teachers for subjects such as Spanish, PE and Music allows pupils to discover talents. Senior School
It is in the Senior School at Long Close that the value of our individualised approach to education is most obvious. The students are on a learning journey from Year 7, aiming to perform as successfully as possible in their GCSEs, and so secure a brighter future for themselves by gaining places at selective Sixth Forms, universities or apprenticeships. The small class sizes, regular assessments and dedicated pastoral care keep the communication open between teachers, enabling everyone to understand where pupils may be struggling and need a little extra focus; where they are excelling and need introducing to new avenues; and, most of all, how to help them attain success.From Year 7, children benefit from the Vertical Tutor Group structure. Enrichment
The Enrichment programme at Long Close is exciting and is an essential ingredient to developing the whole person. As such, there are plenty of ways for pupils to try something new, extend their enthusiasm and develop lifelong interests. There is truly something for everyone.Pupils chose enrichment activities from an exciting menu of varied, challenging pursuits and experiences. From Year 1 upwards, these activities are integrated into the school day, reflecting the importance we place on ensuring pupils enjoy stimulating and life changing experiences throughout their time at school.
Co-curricular and Clubs
This isn’t just after school care! At Long Close, what they offer beyond the core school day is intrinsic to our commitment in developing character in our young people. They offer a myriad of opportunities for the pupils to try new things, step out of their comfort zones, meet new people and develop wider interests. They see co-curricular activities as vital to a rounded education. With this in mind, they offer an extensive co-curricular programme aimed at encouraging curiosity, furthering knowledge and nurturing passions outside the timetable.
Sport at Long Close
During their time at Long Close, our children enjoy regular PE, games and swimming lessons as part of their weekly timetable. Along the way, they learn to play sports such as rugby, football, cricket, hockey, netball, gymnastics, athletics and rounders, discovering the values of teamwork, discipline and practice, while experiencing the exhilaration and fulfilment of well-marshalled competition.We are fortunate to have two excellent Astro-turf pitches, cricket nets, a bowling machine and a long-jump pit within the school grounds, and plenty of surrounding parkland for games such as rugby and rounders.
Art
Art and Design Technology (DT) is a GCSE option in the Senior School and students participate in the subject from Year 7. It allows students to engage with creative thinking, problem-solving and the development of self-expression. Art and DT are fantastic subjects for students to practice stepping outside of their comfort zones and trying different activities. It is a wonderful way to discover that there is a lot to learn from making mistakes.
