Description

Welcome to St. Bernard’s Preparatory School, the leading prep school in Berkshire.  As you read this, you will begin to appreciate the unique ethos of our school.  We are a Catholic school, teaching the Catholic faith and living out the Gospel values which are shared by all faiths and are the foundation of all our relationships and the daily life of our school.  We welcome and embrace children of all faiths and we recognise and celebrate our similarities and differences, developing mutual respect, understanding and tolerance.

They recognise the value and uniqueness of each individual, both child and adult.  They celebrate the talents and gifts of each child and enable them to develop to their full potential spiritually, morally, academically, socially and physically.  Our children are happy, courteous, confident, articulate young citizens, committed to the ideal of service to others. They work in partnership with parents, recognising that they are the first and best educators of their child.  We consider ourselves to be very privileged that parents have entrusted us with the care and education of their child. We ensure that parents are kept fully informed of their child’s progress.

CURRICULUM
At St Bernard’s Preparatory School they provide a broad and balanced curriculum, differentiated and appropriate to the needs of the individual child. They deliver our curriculum with an established team of class teachers and specialist subject teachers, who support our pupils to achieve their full potential academically, spiritually, morally, socially and physically.  As children progress through our school they are nurtured and supported in their personal growth and development. They are encouraged to become more self-confident and independent and are given opportunities to become more self-directed learners.

PREP
As an outstanding school, they offer a rigorous and challenging curriculum. This enables children to take increased responsibility for themselves and their learning, as they prepare to make transition into senior schools. Our children enjoy a wide range of experiences and opportunities through our creative curriculum and the specialist teachers.  The children participate in national competitions in Maths and English, with great success. To celebrate the end of their 'Preparatory School Journey', children experience a week's residential trip to a French chateaux. This is followed by a Prize Giving ceremony, to recognise their personal achievements , culminating in a Leavers's Mass.

PRE-PREP
The Key Stage One classes offer focused teaching and creative learning. Through the vibrant delivery of the curriculum, we strive to develop the whole child and create independent and self-motivated learners. The nurturing and friendly classroom environment ensures that learning is fun and progress is made. The children benefit from small classes and a wide range of multisensory and practical learning opportunities. The class teachers, alongside specialist teachers for French, Music and PE, provide a curriculum that is enriching and personalised to meet the needs of the individual child.

This term, pupils will be gardening, podcasting, cooking, learning chess, to mention just a few activities on offer. Every year our pupils are entered into National Competitions in Handwriting and Maths, where we have achieved considerable success.
