Description

Longacre School is Independent Primary school in Surrey for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Longacre School is a thriving, co-educational preparatory school for boys and girls aged 2 to 11 years. Set in a beautiful rural location on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Shamley Green, between Guildford and Cranleigh, the school offers a wonderful environment for young children. The school buildings comprise the original large 1902 house plus modern, purpose-built classrooms standing in nine acres of grounds. Facilities include a new dining room, sports hall and Astroturf, sports fields, woodland and an adventure playground. Longacre has a proud history and the motto of the school’s founder, Ursula Fairfax-Cholmeley, “A happy heart goes all the way” is still very much part of the school’s ethos.

Facilities

Nursery
Children are able to join our Nursery from the age of 2 provided they will be turning 3 by the 31st August of that academic year. This is because we need to keep the children in their correct academic year group when they enter Kindergarten the following September and then full time school in Reception the following year. The Nursery team have a combined experience of over 30 years working with small children and every effort is made to ensure that the children feel comfortable in their new environment.

Pre-Prep
There are a multitude of reasons to choose Pre-Prep at Longacre. You only have to see our youngest children holding the hands of the Form VI prefects, watch them run in the whole school relay on Sports Day or skip into school in their school uniform to understand why.The Pre-Prep pupils are fortunate to be part of the whole school community, as are their parents. They wear the same uniform, are a member of one of the four school Houses and have access to the very best quality teaching staff for physical development and creative learning. They make use of our top-class facilities and run around our woodland.

Prep
Children move smoothly from the Pre-Prep into the Prep School with access to some of the same teaching staff and facilities which eases the transition. During the Prep School phase of their education, the children will experience many new things and take even greater strides in their academic and personal development. As the children move through the Prep School, they will be expected to take greater responsibility for their learning. We want them to have the confidence to take risks and manage the consequences if they are not initially successful, both in their learning and in their everyday lives. The F.A.I.L. mantra (first attempt in learning) is a key component of this. We aim to ensure our pupils leave us eager, independent children with a thirst for knowledge.

Clubs & Activities
At Longacre, we believe that children thrive in an environment full of opportunities that allows them to explore and discover talents and interests.  Learning beyond the classroom is an essential ingredient of growing up.  Our attitude is that by providing a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities we hope to unearth the interest and passion of every one of our children. As well as offering before and after-school care for all who attend the school (Nursery – Form VI), children are encouraged to take part in a range of activities that cover both creative and sporting elements.  Clubs and activities are run by both members of staff and external club providers with expertise in particular fields. We offer early morning clubs, lunchtime clubs and after school clubs.

Admission Details

Longacre is a non-selective school and our admissions process is designed to identify pupils who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education and to make a positive contribution towards the life of the school. Our main entry points are Nursery and Kindergarten (age 2 – 4), Reception (age 4+) and Year 3 (age 7+) although entry into other year groups is possible during the school year if places are available.Once your child is registered, they will be invited to attend an assessment day or a taster day (for Nursery & Kindergarten). All assessments are undertaken on a one-to-one basis with the class teacher or members of our Learning Support team. The children are not placed under any unnecessary pressure and they are very much encouraged to spend as much time in the classroom with their peers as possible. An offer is then made subject to the child’s performance in assessments and the availability of places. For entry at 5+ and above, a confidential report is sought from the child’s current school.
