Description

Cranleigh is Surrey’s leading co-educational independent school, offering boarding and day education for pupils aged 13 to 18. 

Facilities

  • Cranleigh has its own outdoor Athletics facilities. This includes a discuss/javelin cage, a 400m grass tack and a long jump sandpit.
  • Full-size artificial pitches, one of which is floodlit, 12 hard Tennis courts, in use during the Michaelmas and Lent terms, alongside nine astro courts in use during the Summer term, eight netball courts, four squash courts (currently being refurbished) and six Fives courts. For Rugby, Football and Cricket, 
  • Five outdoor Cricket Squares, one all-weather match pitch, 13 all-weather practice nets and a match pavilion. 
  • At Cranleigh they have on site Equestrian Centre, which provides riding lessons for pupils of all abilities, with and without their own horses.
  • Cranleigh has its own on site 9-hole 3-par golf course available for students to use, as well as a putting green.
  • Outdoor Education Centre on site, housing an indoor climbing wall which is re-routed regularly, rowing machines for kayak training and stores, equipment for CCF and expeditions as well as meeting space for expedition briefings.
  • For swimming at Cranleigh they have indoor on site swimming pool which houses our 4 lane, 25-metre swimming pool with spectator’s gallery.
  • The Trevor Abbott Sports Centre is Cranleigh’s on site indoor sports centre.

Things to note

  • Every pupil will be involved in sports programme throughout their time at Cranleigh. They offer a wide range of sports that allow pupil choice. 
  • At Cranleigh they are passionate about the importance of music in the development of well-rounded individuals, but not to the exclusion of all else. You will find Cranleighans developing their musical talents alongside a well-balanced academic curriculum and a wide range of other creative and sporting activities.
  • Drama is a key part of school life and many parents, pupils and staff are struck by how seriously Cranleigh approaches performance in all its forms. 
  • Cranleigh offers a huge range of opportunities for Outdoor Education with a dedicated centre equipped with climbing wall and rowing machines. 
  • There are also several clubs and societies at Cranleigh, offering a wide range of events and lectures designed to broaden the horizons of pupils.

Admission Details

ENTRY AT 7 PLUS: Registered applicants will be invited to the Assessment day during November in Year 2. The Assessment is a review of the candidate’s interest and abilities. It consists of an informal interview in groups, English papers in comprehension and creative writing paper, a Maths paper and fun team building activities. A report is required from the candidate’s current school. Following the Assessment, and receipt of a positive recommendation from the candidate’s current school, an offer may be made.

ENTRY AT 11 PLUS: Registered applicants will need to sit the ISEB test at their prep school, arranged by their current Head. The ISEB test takes place between October and mid-November of Year 6. Applicants from schools that do not offer the ISEB test can sit the test at Cranleigh Prep School, in arrangement with the Admissions team. Applicants will then be invited to an Assessment day during January of Year 6. Each part of the assessment is equally important. The interview will provide candidates with an opportunity to discuss their passions and what motivates them, during which interests and talents outside the classroom will be highly valued.

Applicants from schools that do not offer the ISEB test can sit the test at Cranleigh Prep School, in arrangement with the Admissions team. Applicants will then be invited to an Assessment day during January of Year 6. Each part of assessment is equally important and offers will only be made once we have reviewed the results of the ISEB test in conjunction with the feedback from the Holistic Assessment Day. The Assessment is a holistic review of the candidate’s interests and abilities. It consists of an informal interview with a senior member of staff, a discussion group, an English creative writing paper and fun team building activities. The interview will provide candidates with an opportunity to discuss their passions and what motivates them, during which interests and talents outside the classroom will be highly valued.

16+ ENTRY: A limited number of places are available to pupils who are aiming to achieve strong results in their GCSE examinations. Entry is competitive and successful candidates are likely to be predicted mostly grades 9-7 at GCSE or IGCSE.

Fees

The fees at Cranleigh School from 1 September 2022 are as follows:

Cranleigh School Boarding Fees   £42,720 annually.
Cranleigh School Day Fees   £35,175 annually.

A discount of fees is available for the third (20%) and subsequent siblings (30%) attending either the Senior or Preparatory School at any one time. For details contact the Director of Finance.
