Mountfield Heath School, Vinehall Rd, Johns Cross, Robertsbridge TN32 5JN, United Kingdom
5-11 Years

Description

Mountfield Heath School is Independent Primary school in East Sussex for kids aged 5 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

At Mountfield Heath School they support boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 11 years of age who have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs and also pupils who have been diagnosed with autism or demonstrate behaviours associated with autism. The aim is very simple: they want to equip every child with the skills, knowledge and confidence that they need to be successful in their future. Many children come to us with very complex needs, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviour. They always look beyond the issues and potential barriers to learning and recognise the innate potential within. They invest time with each individual child to recognise and understand their learning needs so that they can put in place the right support package. The expectations are very high for both behaviour and achievement, because we know that they can help children to reach their potential. With this in mind, they recognise that for many of the children the journey of education so far has been far from easy, which is why they think creatively about our approach to learning. They pride ourselves on preparing the pupils for the next stage of their lives – not just academically but socially and emotionally and all of the pupils are encouraged to reach high standards in every aspect.

Facilities

Curriculum
At the School they offer a flexible, personalised, engaging curriculum placing a strong focus on the social and emotional aspects of learning. In both KS1 and KS2 they incorporate as many experiential learning activities as possible through activities and guests in school and participating in educational visits. The teaching staff and pupil support workers are highly skilled in working with primary pupils with a multitude of needs and differentiate work according to the stage the child is working at, resulting in any gaps in knowledge being covered in a way that suits the child. Work is clearly differentiated, allowing children to both make progress and develop their independence in a calm, safe, nurturing environment. As part of the admissions process and after a place has been confirmed a range of data and information is forwarded to education staff prior to the young person arriving. This information will include education, social and medical history, attendance, safeguarding issues and involvement of other agencies. The Education, Health and Care Plan will provide further information relating to current attainment as a minimum in core subjects.

Features

Things to note

Speech, Language and Communication Assessment
A Speech and Language Therapist works with the identified child or younger person to develop a comprehensive understanding of their speech, language and communication needs. Where these issues are impacting on the individual’s mental health or wellbeing or complicating their access to education or social network, an assessment can identify specific issues that require a need for direct therapy – Specialist Level of Intervention or make recommendations developing these skills or abilities in the individuals support network through a Therapy Plan – Enhanced Level of Intervention.

Sensory Assessment
Where significant sensory issues have been identified, an Occupational Therapist is able to provide a comprehensive assessment of these issues and offer a detailed understanding of how they might impact on the individual at home and school. This will also elicit specific intervention and adjustments that can help the individual to reach more of their potential in all aspects of their lives.

Occupational – Physical and Sensory Assessment
An Occupational Therapist works with the identified individual(s) to develop a thorough understanding of their practical, sensory and emotional needs with the aim of providing a comprehensive report on how their condition might be affecting their ability to access their education or otherwise live their life to its full potential. The assessment can indicate a need for direct therapy – Specialist Level of Intervention or provide a full list of recommendations on how to develop the strength of the individual in the form of a Therapy Plan, helping others to work with complex issues such as sensory integration difficulties in a governed and supported way – Enhanced Level of Intervention.
