Curriculum
Here at New Seaham Academy, they pride ourselves on a highly relevant curriculum, based on a firm focus on basic skills and memorable learning experiences which provides the pupils with enriching experiences and an outstanding education for all groups of pupils. They follow the National Curriculum in the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and Computing, as well as the humanities, Arts and PE and the Agreed Durham Syllabus for RE. In addition they teach French in KS2 and language skills through the Languages Bridge. Across the curriculum they embed the use and application of new technologies to motivate and enhance learning. The reading scheme is varied to suit the needs of all pupils, including both fiction and non-fiction books. They have a wide selection of phonics based reading books from the Oxford Reading Tree Songbirds range for individual reading. Read, Write inc. phonics based books are used for paired reading to accompany the phonics programme. They use a variety of books for group guided reading sessions including the Rigby Star scheme. Project X books are used throughout the school and are particularly popular with boys. Regular reading comprehension lessons take place with a specific assessment focus in each year group throughout the school.

Music
At New Seaham Academy music is considered an essential part of a broad and balanced curriculum. It is a foundation subject in the National Curriculum. Music is concerned with the creative, aesthetic, emotional and spiritual response to rhythmic combinations of sound.New Seaham Academy has a dedicated resource room in which the pupils make the most of a wide range of tuned instruments for melody and harmony. To underpin the importance of rhythm we use a wide range of percussion instruments as an integral part of the musical process.
