North London Rudolf Steiner School is Independent Primary school in Haringey for kids aged 3 to 6 (Gender - Mixed )
They are an independent, co-educational and non-denominational Steiner Waldorf Early Years Centre located in Hornsey/Crouch End in North London, an area with wonderful parks and woodlands such as Highgate and Queen’s Woods.The school, in common with other Steiner Waldorf settings, takes the educational writings of Rudolf Steiner as its starting point. Our staff members receive support, advice and collegiality through the Steiner Waldorf Schools’ Fellowship. Our work also entails positive dialogue with other early years’ practitioners, school inspectors and the relevant authorities or institutions.

THE EARLY YEARS AT OUR SCHOOL
The school is a specialised Steiner Early Years Centre focusing on education for children from birth to six years. We offer four Parent and Child groups for children from 0 to 3 1/2 years of age and three mixed-age Kindergartens for children from 3 until 6. All groups are led by specially trained Steiner teachers.The aim is to create a creative, safe and homely environment in which the children can develop socially, emotionally and physically. The foundations skills for literacy and numeracy are laid through a curriculum rich in nourishing opportunities for children to learn experientially, in preparation for more formal teaching and learning of these subjects when the children move on to school.
THE FINAL YEAR OF KINDERGARTEN
The Steiner Waldorf ethos is to provide an extended childhood, where children have the opportunity to embed the basic skills (physical, emotional, social and cognitive), and develop lifelong learning habits which enable them to become enthusiastic, imaginative, resilient, creative and eager to learn students. They learn through practical, hands-on everyday experiences and opportunities which arise naturally in child-led play, social interaction and teacher-led activity.

OUTDOOR LEARNING
Children in the school thrive on daily outdoor experiences in all weathers. The garden area encompasses a purpose built outdoor classroom which can be used for woodwork and other such tasks. It also houses an earth oven where the children bake bread.They have a designated Garden Activities Lead who carefully plans seasonal outdoor activities. For example, in the autumn the children enjoy pressing apples to make juice, making turnip lanterns and planting spring bulbs. Other activities include pottery, paper making, wood work, leaf pressing, mulching and digging and making sand candles.
INDOOR & OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT
They know how sensitive and easily over-stimulated young children are. In our school, their developing senses are protected and nourished by soft colours, natural textures and a conscious striving for beauty in words, gestures, songs and stories. Flowing paints, the warmth of wood and wool, the cool weight of stones, the smell of lavender all make for deeply satisfying hands-on experiences. In each class there is a home corner, an area for floor play and for building large constructions, as well as a quiet corner and an area for the table activities.
