Pocklington School is a day and boarding School for boys and girls aged 3-18 focused on helping every child fulfil their potential. Things to note

  • Pupils are taught to play the traditional sports – rugby, hockey, cricket, athletics and tennis for boys and hockey, netball, tennis, athletics and rounders for girls. There is also a wide range of other sports including archery, lacrosse, squash, table-tennis, judo and swimming available through the week.
  • Music plays an extremely important part in the life of the school. Almost half of the pupils receive individual tuition and some 11 groups rehearse weekly. These are wide-ranging in their appeal, ranging from a chamber group to the Junior Orchestra and Swing Band. 
  • Drama is a crucial part of the cirriculum. 
  • The aim of the Art Department is to develop skills and imagination in drawing, printing, sculpture, ceramics, digital imaging and video production.

Admission Details

Pocklington Pre-School ages 3 - 4: Entry to the Pre-School is secured following a visit to the school. They encourage prospective parents and their children to visit and experience the school on a normal day. Entry through to the Pre-Prep (Reception, Years 1 and 2) for Pre-School pupils is by an informal, individual assessment.

Pocklington Pre-Prep ages 4 - 7: Entry to Pocklington Pre-Prep (Reception, Years 1 and 2) is by an informal, individual assessment. They also encourage prospective parents and their children to visit and experience the school on a normal day.

Pocklington Prep School ages 7 - 11: Pre-Prep pupils automatically progress to Year 3. Children joining the Prep Department in Year 3 from other schools are asked to sit the Pocklington Prep School entrance assessment. The assessments use a mixture of online and paper assessments in English and Maths. The assessment is usually held on a Saturday morning in January: beyond this date, if places are still available, parents can arrange individual assessment days through the school office.

Registration simply signals to the schools admissions office that you wish to proceed with arrangements for entry, including the entrance assessment, and guarantees that you will automatically be contacted at the appropriate time with details of the entrance assessments and other entry arrangements along with information about the school that may be of interest, including Open Mornings and Events. Offers of places are generally made as soon as the entrance assessment results are known. Offers are normally time sensitive and should be accepted by the deadline in the offer letter. On acceptance of an offer parents must complete and return the parent/school agreement a copy of which will be sent to you.

Scholarships

They have a number of scholarships available every year. Academic and Music scholarships are financial awards granted to a student on the basis of the student's academic or musical excellence. Alongside this is new Sports Scholars Programme, which is designed to nurture and support the sports men and women of the future. Fee assistance is a financial award granted on the basis of the student's financial needs, to cover up to 100% of tuition fees.This fee assistance is confidential and is strictly means tested.
