Early Years Learning Journey – Full Time Education
At St. Crispin’s full time children access the wider range of educational activities on offer. These include music, singing and dancing as well as structured PE sessions, where as well as learning about keeping fit, specific sports are taught, including; tennis, basketball, football and many others. Full time children also visit the ICT suite weekly, and enjoy visits from the Book Bus, Fire Service, Blue Cross and other visiting speakers. All of these activities that are available to full time children are taught by well experienced, fully qualified Level 4 and Level 3 staff together with specialist teachers from the main school. For those children who attend full time there is an extended learning curriculum so that they do not cover the same work twice. Children within the nursery are encouraged to learn read and write and parents are given tools to help their children develop through home reading and writing exercises. This gives the children an excellent basis for moving on to the Infant department and gives them a ‘head start’ on their learning and progression into the next stage of education. All children are treated as individuals and their individual Learning Journeys reflect this.

Preparatory Curriculum
They do not have an entrance examination for the children entering primary schooling. They feel very strongly that all children should be given a chance to develop at their own pace and should not be tested for ability at this stage. They select the students through an interview process with the Head master and behaviour reports. The class sizes are small and therefore our places are highly selective. Standards and expectations are high at St. Crispin’s and a hard-working ethos is expected. St Crispin’s follows the National Curriculum for Small schools and children receive a broad and balanced education. The emphasis is on all children achieving their true potential and every effort is made to ensure that quality learning takes place.

Senior School Curriculum
The aims of the senior school curriculum are to provide all children with a broad, balanced and differentiated range of subjects and tasks; for children to enjoy their studies and to leave school with the maximum grades and examinations that they can achieve. The departments are designed specifically for individuals who would benefit from an academic education in a small, hard working less pressurised family environment. They cater for gifted and talented children, dyslexic and delicate children; all with good conduct who are prepared to work hard towards their academic studies. Small classes enable us to develop self-esteem, which in turn promotes learning.Children in Years 7 to 9 enjoy unique and tailored lessons taught by experienced and highly qualified educators. Targets are based around the National Curriculum with individual targets set for all children. The children have wide-ranging abilities and backgrounds, which means teaching and learning at St. Crispin’s enables students to progress and achieve.

Features

Things to note

Remote Learning Provisions
As part of the Remote Learning Provision, we provide: All live lessons, throughout the whole day from Reception to Year 11, enabling discussion and a chance for pupils to interact and ask questions of the teachers and speak to other remote members of the class and the pupils that are attending face to face as well.  This greatly increased retention and increases a much greater understanding of the subject matter, along with social and mental support from both tutors and peers. All lessons are provided by our own teachers and have not been replaced by a secondary sourced supplier.  This ensures that there is a constant standard of education and communication as all of our tutors know each pupil and can assist with each of their needs.  This also helps create a continuity of learning, relations and trust, in what is a challenging time for all pupils.

Extra-Curricular Activites
If you have a particular requirement that is currently not on our timetable, please do not hesitate in speaking to us.
Modern Foreign Languages: At parents request they are happy to arrange for additional language lessons given sufficient notice, such as German or Italian. These would have to be paid for at cost but could be arranged during the working school day.
Senior School Council: All children take part within the monthly School Council, giving the school a strong and inclusive student voice within the running of the school, no child is excluded and all have the opportunity to give opinion and be listened to.

Sport
Alongside the EYFS Profile which includes Physical Development; full time children have access to the school sports programme which includes lessons with the School’s PE staff; they learn the basic skills for ball games and racquet sports along with agility, running and throwing skills. This culminates with a Fun Sports Day at the end of the Academic Year together with the junior school children.Infant children continue with their lessons with a more formal approach that allows children to realise that they can’t win every time and that the best team will win. There is an infant football club held during the Autumn and Spring Terms during after-care; with tennis and cricket during the summer term.
