St James’ Primary is a successful school that is at the heart of its community. There are strong links with the parish church and these enhance the spiritual and moral development of the people they serve.At St James’ they are committed to providing a high standard of Catholic education for all pupils in a friendly and welcoming environment. They recognise that every child has their own, unique set of gifts and talents and ensure that there are opportunities for these to be developed.

Curriculum
At St James’ they feel that English has a pre-eminent place in education and society. The children need to develop skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening so that they can express themselves creatively and communicate with others effectively. We ensure that pupils leaving the school are confident, independent and literate learners. They offer an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum that develops the skills of each child to the highest level. Literacy skills are developed across the curriculum. Spoken language underpins the development of reading and writing in the school and speaking and listening is an integral part of the whole of the school day. Reading is a skill essential for life and it is vital that our children leave school able to read fluently, confidently and have a love of reading.

Extra Curricular Clubs
The children love sports at St James’ and growing extra-curricular activities allow them to take part in many sporting activities. The focus is on making sport enjoyable and accessible to all children as well as providing opportunities to represent the school in a range of sports competitions.We try to offer a range of clubs at St James’. These vary throughout the year and this year will include: boys’ and girls’ football, basketball, judo, gymnastics, cross-country, rugby, hockey, athletics and Multi-sport games.

After-School/Breakfast Club
The school has been able to appoint good staff from the school and local community to run the after-school / breakfast clubs. Breakfast club session starts at 7.30am. £6.00 per session. After-school club runs until 5.55pm as the school is locked at 6pm. £12.50 per session
