The Highway Primary School is a State Primary School for kids aged 5 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

The Highway Primary School has been serving the local community and providing a high quality education for over 70 years. The inclusive, family ethos underpins a caring, safe environment where values such as self-esteem and mutual respect allow all children and staff to feel confident, happy and valued.  We see all our children as unique individuals and really celebrate their diversity. The Highway is a one-form entry, recently rebuilt and refurbished co-educational primary with approximately 220 pupils on roll.  In April 2016 we were delighted to gain Academy status and become part of a Multi-Academy Trust known as the South Orpington Learning Alliance (SOLA) with 5 other local schools: Chelsfield Primary, Darrick Wood Junior School, Green St Green Primary, Pratts Bottom Primary and Tubbenden Primary.

Curriculum
When the children leave The Highway we expect them to: Be confident and fluent readers, who read widely and are able to express preferences and opinions about the texts that they read. Read for pleasure, having had access to a wide range of text types, genres and authors in order for them to make informed opinions about their favourites. Write with confidence and accuracy for a variety of purposes and audiences whilst developing their own individual flair. Be able to write with grammatical accuracy and be able to apply spelling patterns correctly using a neat handwriting style. Be exposed to a wide range of vocabulary so that they able to decipher new words and then use them when speaking both informally and formally. Be able to speak eloquently, to articulate ideas and thoughts, to influence through talk, to collaborate with others and express views confidently and appropriately.

Clubs
At The Highway they have a programme of extra curricular clubs, taking place at lunch time and after school.  They offer a wide variety of clubs including Mindfulness, Football, Theatre Kids and Art.
