St Michael's is a successful, well-ordered and caring mixed Catholic comprehensive College for students aged from eleven to eighteen. St Michael’s aims not only to be a school that is effective, but one which is also distinctive. As a Catholic College, St Michael’s ensures students receive high quality spiritual development and faith formation underpinned by Gospel values and the Salesian values of Respect, Understanding, Affection and Humour which inform all that we do.The College is committed to bringing each student to the fullness of life through education. At St Michael’s we recognise there are no limits to a child’s potential and our aim is simple; to facilitate academic and personal success by bringing each person to the fullness of life through education within an environment that embraces Gospel and Salesian values – of serving others, respect, tolerance, consistent discipline, loving kindness, reflection, forgiveness and the celebration of success.

Main School Curriculum
At St Michael’s we offer a broad and balanced curriculum which provides both continuity and progression for our students across the key stages as well as fostering the spiritual, intellectual, moral, cultural and physical development of all our students. Our curriculum focuses on ensuring the achievement and enjoyment of each individual; we recognise that all students have different talents and ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to find and develop the talents that they possess.

Sixth Form Curriculum
The Sixth Form curriculum is shaped to offer students both academic and personal challenges, as well as the space to develop and pursue their own interests; preparing them for the competitive world of either work or university. As a Catholic College we ensure that our students have continued opportunities to develop and reflect on their own faith and we expect them to participate as members of the college in community acts of worship; beyond this,the sixth form students have a full part to play in the life of the college.

Things to note

Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and Inclusion
Identify pupils who require support for education, behavioural or emotional reasons.Decide the type of support that is appropriate for each individual. Fulfil the requirements of pupils who have a statement of Special Educational Needs. Provide a supportive environment so that each pupil feels they are valued, thus enhancing their self-worth as a pupil of St Michael’s. Support and enable each pupil to become a confident and independent learner, in order that they can make the most of the opportunities that St Michael’s has to offer.The Head of SEN and Inclusion liaises with subject teachers and Heads of Department to ensure that provision is made for those pupils with an additional educational need and co-ordinates the work of outside agencies to meet the needs of pupils with a need and those who have Statements of Special Educational Need. Pupils have a wide variety of physical and emotional needs.
